FH Documents and Artefacts / Metal plate trademark
« on: Monday 01 June 20 16:26 BST (UK)  »
Apologies if this is not really suitable for this forum, and if this is the case, happy if anyone could signpost me elsewhere.

Found this on a walk on the Sussex Downs. The initial excitement and over zealous interpretation of the lettering as runes and that this was the side-plate of a Viking helmet soon subsided, and thought it more probably a piece of late 19th/20th century farm machinery. But I can't find anything relating to the interesting lettering/logo/trademark and wondered if anyone might be able to help?

Warwickshire / O'Hora of Birmingham
« on: Thursday 05 March 20 15:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I wonder if anyone can help please. We're trying to find out more about Anna O'Hora (Born 27.9.1851), Father - Anthony O’Hora and Mother - Mary O’Hora (formerly Tarpey) of 44 London Prentice Street, Birmingham (from Birth certificate). We just can't seem to find anything about the family or Anna?

We think Anna maybe married a Partridge but have no evidence?

Any help appreciated

Many thanks

Armed Forces / Army Boxing records
« on: Tuesday 28 May 19 16:02 BST (UK)  »
Does such a thing exist as the Army Boxing records? My father John Byrne from Dublin/Liverpool was in the Royal Artillery 1946-1952 and apparently represented the regiment/army at Boxing. All his trophies were pawned during hard times. We met one of his old friends recently who suggested Dad was offered a professional contract and Tommy Farr as his trainer, but declined as he had a new young family. Apart from that we know nothing about his boxing and would love to find out more.

Any help gratefully received.

Thank you

Denis

Lancashire / Who was Lil Moore?
« on: Tuesday 27 December 16 14:56 GMT (UK)  »
I was wondering if anyone might help identify the source of this Tiger Cowrie shell and any links to the owner Lil Moore.  The shell is inscribed:
William John Japha born November 25th 1820
Anne
Maria his beloved wife was born November 20th 1828
The conch shell was owned by Lil Moore who lived in Liverpool, but we don’t think she had any living family when she died. As far as we can see there was only one Lilian in the Japha family tree, so she may be Lilian Suckley (born 1909), daughter of Ethel Japha and Thomas Suckley. Ethel being the granddaughter of William and Anne Maria by John Robinson Japha (1852-1880) and Mary Whitehead. But we have no idea if she married.
The origin of the shell is mystery, although Williams’s son William John (1853-1917) was a seafarer in the merchant navy which he joined in 1855. Although a plausible explanation of its origin it may be an earlier wedding gift?
We know quite a bit about William Japha who was born Wolf Japha in Fraustadt, now Wschowa, Poland, but this is the only material artefact or place of living that has been discovered, so it is most precious to us.

Many thanks

Hi

I wonder if anyone might help tracing b1811/1821 from Sligo. Hoping to identify any parents but also passenger lists of emigration from Ireland. According to 1851 census their first child was born c1846 in Liverpool, so assume (if this is correct) they may have left Ireland at the onset of The Hunger. Hoping to find out where in Sligo they originated and if the were were Hunger survivors. Many thanks

Monmouthshire / John Henry Williams/Newland, from Caerphilly
« on: Sunday 13 March 16 19:56 GMT (UK)  »
Apologies if this is the wrong forum but would be grateful for any help finding John Henry Williams whose registered name was Newland (b 1904), as not having any luck so far. John Henry married    Elsie Annie Holden (b 1911) on 17th December, 1929  with none of John's  parents recorded on marriage certificate.  His profession was a cinema operator so he may have worked at the Caerphilly Working men's institute?

Any links or suggestions would be most welcome.

Very many thanks

Hi. I wonder if anyone could point me in the direction of royal artillery records, particularly boxing records. I believe my father John/Johny/Sean Byrne boxed for the artillery sometime between 1946-1952 and was a PE instructor and it would be wonderful if any records survived? Many thanks
