Glamorganshire / WATTS death Swansea
« on: Thursday 11 May 23 09:18 BST (UK)  »
I have two 4great grandparents who both died at St.David's Place, Swansea in 1872.

Henry WATTS 5 Jun 1872
Elizabeth WATTS 29 Aug 1872

Both are natives of Devon.

I have yet to determine where they were buried.

If I purchased a death certificate would it show place of burial?

Many Thanks

Dale

Australia / POYSER brothers convicts to Tasmania.
« on: Tuesday 28 February 23 07:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I am looking for information on what might have happened to these two fellows after they received their Ticket of Leave.

Thomas and  William Poyser were sent to VDL (Tasmania) in 1824 aboard the Phoenix. By 1840 they had received their ticket of leave and in 1841 Thomas married Mary Ann Thomas in Hobart.

After that I can find no trace of them to complicate things William Poyser also used the alias William Waddingham.

Any help tracking down these 2 great great great uncles appreciated.

Thanks Dale

Australia / HAEUSLER Ferdinand 1819-1901
« on: Saturday 09 July 22 04:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

I am looking for Information on Ferdinand Haeusler  born around 1819 in Prussia and died in 1901 at Morgan, SA.

The information I have is

He is the son of Heinrich Wilhelm Haeusler and Louisa Knappe.

His brothers Johann Gottlob, Johann Wilhelm and Johan Friedrich August came to South Australia from Bremen in 1846 aboard the Pauline. I had been led to believe that Ferdinand came with them -  however I can't find him on that list.

His mother Louisa (nee Knappe) and two of his sisters came out later that same year aboard the Heerjebhoy Patel.

My queries relating to this - how did he get to Australia? Were there any other siblings - family members say there could have been up to 9 brothers.

Feridnand and Mary Gleeson from Ireland have 4 children Mary Ann c 1856-1916 later Mrs Searles, Luise c 1858- 1870, Caroline 1859-1939 later Mrs McKenny and Ferdinand 1861-1940 married Maria Hoffmann.

The first 2 children's births were not registered (I cannot find them) and I cannot find a marriage. Also wondering if there were any other children I have not found.

Many thanks in anticipation

Dale

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / SLADER from Devon to Australia
« on: Monday 28 June 21 10:51 BST (UK)  »
John SLADER died at Charlton, Victoria in 1910.

He is listed on the 1908 Electoral Rolls as living at Yawong and working as a laborer.

John was baptised 12 October 1845, at High Bray, Dervon. His parents were William Slader and Mary Ann nee Westcott.

I believe he came to Victoria between 1900 and 1908 but can't find any sign of him in records I've looked at.

Thanks in advance

Dale

« on: Tuesday 22 June 21 07:50 BST (UK)  »
I am hoping someone with access to Victorian Electoral Rolls might help me locate a family in Ballarat.

The family lived at 6 Pryor Street, Mt Pleasant maybe from the 1930's onwards. I believe the parents would be deceased now.

Thanks Dale

Australia / GORST - WILSHIRE family Victoria
« on: Thursday 06 August 20 00:18 BST (UK)  »
Richard GORST married Louisa WILSHIRE.
They had a daughter Mary Ann GORST around 1859 in Maldon.
Richard was a publican in and around the Goldfields region of Bealiba and Rheola in the 1870's.
Mary Ann married John CATTO in 1886 in Victoria.
Richard GORST died in an East Melbourne Hospital in 1886 aged 65 years and is buried in the Melbourne General Cemetery.

I have extensive details of the Catto family but can find very little on the Gorst family.
In particular when and where Louisa died and is buried.
When and where Richard and Louisa married (if they did)
Also an Ann WILSHIRE married William NUTT and was having children in the same area and same time. Wondering if she was a sister?

Any other details anyone could come up with would be much appreciated.

Australia / GAUNT Richard and HEALEY Margaret Tasmanian Convicts
« on: Tuesday 28 April 20 10:12 BST (UK)  »
Richard GAUNT was born in Matlock, Derbyshire around 1816. He was convicted of horse stealing and was transported to Tasmania on the Elphinstone in 1836.

I am hoping someone has Tasmania BDM records to verify the following

He married Margaret HEALEY in or around 1843 in Hobart. Margaret was also a convict but haven't found here record yet.

According to his death certificate 1873 in Victoria. He had 3 daughters Lydia born c 1843, Sarah born c 1845 and Margaret born c 1847. Sarah and Margaret travelled with the family to Victoria in around 1851. I believe Lydia stayed in Tasmania and married there.

I have family information of Sarah and Margaret but nothing on what happened to Lydia.

Any help would be great Thank you in anticipation
Dale
