« on: Friday 08 October 21 14:36 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know when the McCallum family moved into the village of Low Coylton and when moved to new house at Coylton (Joppa) please? This is my Grandparents who moved from Stirling I believe. Thanks.

Stirlingshire / Craigerme Farm Bucklyvie?
« on: Friday 09 May 14 16:44 BST (UK)  »
Anyone from the Bucklyvie/Kippen area heard of a farm (or house) called Craigerme (Poss an "n" instead of "m"). Trying to trace my Gt Grandfather Peter McCallum, farm worker, who resided there in 1865. Don't know anything else about him to aid my search except this.

Perthshire / Balquidder Kirk Sessions
« on: Monday 10 September 12 16:37 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me how I can access the Kirk Sessions for Balquidder?  I am interested particularly in the years around 1865.  I am looking for a mention of my illegitimate Grandfather's mother and hopefully the unknown father.  Any help gratefully appreciated.

Ayrshire / Brechney & Lafferty of Cumnock area
« on: Saturday 15 January 11 16:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all.  Has anybody come across either of the two families Brechney or Lafferty from the old Cumnock area?  Originally from Ireland (obviously!) but settled in and around this area. In 1899 James Brechney married Margaret Lafferty and am trying to trace both backwards and forwards from this marriage date.  Any connections out there would be most appreciated.

Perthshire / Strathyre connection 1800's
« on: Tuesday 24 August 10 17:38 BST (UK)  »
I am interested in links between the CARMICHAEL family and the McCALLUM family in the Strathyre area in the 1800's particularly Elizabeth Carmichael and Peter McCallum.  Anybody know of any connection at all - however remote?

Occupation Interests / Railway worker
« on: Friday 13 August 10 17:18 BST (UK)  »
Hello All.  Any ideas on how I find out about my Grandfather Peter McCallum who was a railway worker/builder from about 1880. Possibly starting in Perthshire, but also he apparently went at least twice and worked in South Africa certainly in 1888 (British Bechuanaland now Botswana) and later (after marrying Magdelane White in Stirling 1891) in 1893 (Newcastle in Natal). He later settled in Stirling and Ayrshire, still working on the railways. These dates in Sth Africa are via his written notations in books he owned.  I would like to know what records there are regarding railway workers who went to Sth Africa obviously to help build the railway system there. Any help from out there much appreciated, been worrying away at this for a long, long time.

Perthshire / Carmichael & McCallum of Strathyre
« on: Monday 22 June 09 21:01 BST (UK)  »
Have finally linked my grandfather Peter McCallum (b1865) of Strathyre to his natural mother Elizabeth Carmichael (1842-1869) - but - don't know his father as not on birth cert. So my problem is :- how did he get the surname (by the time he was 6yrs and his mother dead)? Was it his 'true' father, if so I have not been able to trace him. My grandfather appeared to be brought up in the Carmichael family according to the 1871 census but then 'disappears' for the 1881 census. Does anyone, from the Strathyre area perhaps, know how I can get to the bottom of this problem?
