Dorset / Richard Moore - Portland quarry man missing after 1861
« on: Friday 27 December 19 12:12 GMT (UK)  »
I am researching Richard Moore a Portland quarry man from a long Portland hertiage.

Born 1812 and marries Ann Stone in Oct 1831.  He is on the next 3 censuses but then disappears after 1861.  He has 16 children!

I can not find a death record at all. His wife becomes shop keeper but does not list herself as widow untill 1881.

Could be have abandoned her and moved off Portland?  I am completely stuck.

This is the will for Dorothy and has an 1812 date.  I can't see when she died?  Was it written just before she died or was that much later?   I think that there were at least 3 children Thomas, John and Martha but I am really struggling with the handwriting.

Can anyone help?

Pembrokeshire / Mystery Burial St David's October 1906
« on: Tuesday 02 April 19 16:19 BST (UK)  »
Why can I not find a death record for a 77 year old called Elizabeth Richards who was buried in St Davids in Oct 20th 1906?

The church burial record shows that she was buried but I can't find her death record on BMD at all.

I do have a record for an Eliza Richards who died 2 days previously but she was 40 years of age.  Could it really be the same person?

US Lookup Requests / George J Brown - possible US Immigrant?
« on: Sunday 29 July 18 19:23 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace George James Brown b.Ludchurch, Weston near Haverfordwest in Wales 1850 who was married to Catherine Mortimer d.1893

He son George Mortimer Brown emigrated to Boston in 1894 and lived there and in New York with his wife Mary,  He returned to Wales in 1900 and 1907.  His brother Osborne came back with him in 1907.

Their father was living in Llanelly in 1901 with another brother, Albert.  He then disappears and it's possible that he also emigrated to the US.

Where should I start looking for him?

Caernarvonshire Lookup Requests / A L Jones Llysfaen 1851
« on: Saturday 14 July 18 14:28 BST (UK)  »
I am looking at the 1851 census for Llysfaen Caernvonshire and find Catherine Elizabeth Jones b.1843 living with her father AL Jones and mother Mary.  I can't find then in 1844 or 1861 onwards.  Catherine marries in 1863 but the parents are still missing.  Any thoughts on why they only exist in 1851?

This chap is George Brown born 1875 in Wales and married to Mary Ellie b.1877in Ireland.  I know that they were both alive in NY in 1940 but then the trail goes cold.  Is there anyway I can find a record of his death online?

I think that his SSN was 114-09-5575

Lancashire / Firm of J.G.Carter Bury Lancashire - badge makers?
« on: Thursday 18 August 16 11:53 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find out more about a school badge for Bury Grammar School.  It is marked Regd (sic registered) J.G.Carter Bury.

Bury archives have no record of it but I suspect the badge dated between 1930-60s.  I have looked on the Bury business list for 1938 and it is not there.

Can any help me to date the badge by identifying when the firm was in operation?
