The Common Room / Wills
« on: Tuesday 02 April 24 11:32 BST (UK)  »
Am not sure if this is the correct board but here goes!
I have a will dated 1830 in which the deceased leaves income from property to his wife, 3 daughters  (possibly unmarried) and eldest son. The eldest son is also an executor.
The youngest son, born 1819,from whom we are descended, is not mentioned at all.

Can anyone explain if this was a common occurence or deliberate for some reason.

Many thanks

Lancashire / Joseph Arnold Snr born c 1798 Manchester
« on: Saturday 21 May 22 07:38 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to locate:
 1. a birth/baptism for Joseph Arnold b circa 1798 Manchester ( information given on his 2nd marriage and by son on his father's death certificate) I have found a birth in Ormskirk Lancashire in 1793 with parents Joseph and Jane. The reason I think there might be a possible link with the Ormskirk entry is that Joseph Snr named his first son Joseph and his first daughter Jane although this is tenuous.
2. I am unable to find his first marriage to Mary McKee in possibly 1835-36. They sailed to Australia probably soon after and a child Jane was born at sea. ( refs her marriage certificate.)
Joseph Arnold was a Commission Agent/merchant and died in Melbourne.

Any help much appreciated

England / Meaning of Aged fund house on 1851 census
« on: Monday 21 June 21 02:01 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know what the entry on the 1851 UK census under occupation "Aged fund House" means?
I have several examples in the village of Hatfield Peverel for men aged 70-80 and also some who are living in Almshouses. Does this mean the properties were for older villagers and supported  perhaps by the parish?

Many thanks

Another request please for the Latin scholars.
The third line of the burial records Ingatestone Essex 1579 has been transcribed (not by me) as:
"Ricus Pettfelde  .. 21 Sept."

Could you please decipher the whole line and is anyone familiar with the name Ricus?

Many thanks

Antrim Resources & Offers / Andrew Boyd Ballymena Co Antrim
« on: Wednesday 29 April 20 04:27 BST (UK)  »
Am searching for a marriage c 1820-1830 between Andrew Boyd and Elizabeth McCulloch most probably Catholic Parish. The only detail I have is that they were from Ballymena. One son, John Boyd b 1831 came to Australia in the mid 1850' s.
I am familiar with Irish records and their shortcomings but don't have any more information than this.
Many thanks
