Devon / Birth look up please - COLE
« on: Friday 14 January 05 12:38 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone trace a birth for me for

Mary Cole, father James Cole. Born 1838/39.

Some confusion as to where she was born: Manaton/ Moretonhampsed/ Widdicombe areas are all mentioned in other records I have for her.

(Nothing showing in the Moretonhampsted baptisms database.)

Thanks

Devon Completed Lookup Requests / 1841 and 1851 census look-up please: COLE
« on: Thursday 13 January 05 08:57 GMT (UK)  »
I would be garetful if someone could look up:

1) George Cole in the 1851 census. Born Moreton Hamstead. Later a master miller at Widdicombe, so possible he had moved to there by 1851.

2) 1841 census: Moreton Hampsted:

George Cole (as above, aged 15)
Mary Cole (probably about 2 years old)
Father James Cole. labourer. Mother unknown.

I have a marriage certificate for Mary Cole, where father is shown as James Cole and the witness is a George Cole. I cannot trace a birth certificate for her, so am trying to link these together as a family unit and also get a mother's name, by using the census. In the 1851 census there is no George Cole living with Mary and James(who was a widower by then), so I am hoping they were all together in 1841!

Many thanks to anyone who can help.

Hi,

I'd appreciate someone searching for the following in the 1851 census please:

1) James Hext, born 1833, with a father called Robert.

2) Mary Cole, born circa 1839 in Manaton, father called James. Mother not known. (I can't find a birth certificate.) I suspect she had an elder brother called George.

Many thanks.

Family History Beginners Board / How do I trace a clergy man who died pre-Crockfords?
« on: Wednesday 05 January 05 13:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I an trying to find out more about an ancester who was a clergyman, but who died in 1846 i.e. before the first Crockford's clerical directory was produced.

Does anyone know of a way to trace details of clergy before that date? I know where he was vicar of (Haughton Regis in Bedfordshire). Would the diocese have any records and if so does anyone know where I contact them?

Amongst other things, I'd like to know if/ where he went to University. I know it is possible to buy CDs showing scanned images of Oxford, Cambridge etc. University records, but at over £25 each, it seems pricey when I don't know where he went and so would have to buy the lot!

Bedfordshire Completed Look ups / 1851 census look up please: LUTON
« on: Tuesday 04 January 05 14:14 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for a reverend John Donne, who I know died in Luton in 1857. He had a wife called Dinah.

If anyone can trace him and his family there in the 1851 census, I would be very grateful.
