Lancashire / Elizabeth Highfield were you telling lies?
« on: Sunday 06 September 09 11:09 BST (UK)  »
My Great Grandmother is a  Elizabeth Highfield.(1881) Well that is the name she gave on her marriage certificate....I am begining to wonder about that.

She married a Thomas Worrall in Dec 1902 Chorlton

She also claimed she was born in Lancashire and her father was a Samuel Highfield, occupation Fustian Cutter.

I have searched/followed the line of all Elizabeth Highfields and variations of the name anything with an E. born within 20yrs of her claimed birth date. I have also searched and followed all Samuel Highfields (surprisingly it isn't that common a name)

And I have nothing...absolutely nothing after all these years. I can only conclude that somewhere along the way my grt grandmother told a few lies. Possibly about her age, her fathers name, his occupation, where she was born. Or maybe she just didn't know.

I am completely stumped by her...I haven't just hit a brick wall it's fallen on me.

Any help or guidence would be very much appreiciated.

Cheshire Completed Lookup Requests / Kingsley/Frodsham, Cheshire
« on: Tuesday 12 February 08 16:50 GMT (UK)  »
I am hoping someone can provide information(or point me in the right direction) on my Peter Worrall born Kingsley,  Cheshire about 1819ish. (Probably baptised in Overton or Frodsham)

Father Joseph Worrall I have no year of birth or where born for him but it is most likely in the Frodsham area of Cheshire if not Kingsley itself.

I do know that by 1843 Peter is living in Hulme, Manchester. He turns up again in the 1851 census for that area. He gives his occupation as a Carpenter/Joiner

All advice/guidence greatly recieved.

Lancashire / Where Are My Worrall(Warrell) Family Manchester
« on: Thursday 16 November 06 10:11 GMT (UK)  »
I have sourced my Worrall Family (various Spellings) from the 1871 Census. Up till the 1901 Census.

But  where are they in previous census?

Peter Worrall  [1850c] appears with a Thomas Worrall  [1846c] as lodgers in Deansgate Area of Manchester in 1871 and after his Marriage in 1873 to Theresa Hurst he appears in all future census with his family right upto his death in 1896.

I know his father is also called Peter Worrall but there is no finding them on the 1841; 1851; 1861 census.

Both Peter and Thomas are born in Manchester.  So where are they in 1861?

What is interesting is that Peter's first child born 1874 is born in Earlstown. However the next child born in 1876 and all other children, born in Manchester.

So obviously they lived in Earllstown,  for a while. Question is was it work that took them to Earlstown [railway developement] Or did they have family in the  area...There is a  Worrall family in the area, atleast one of whom was born in Manchester[a grandchild]?

Does anyone have any idea where my family could have been in the years prior to 1871?

Lancashire / So what's the story?
« on: Friday 10 February 06 00:25 GMT (UK)  »
I have come across two Mary Henny's in my journey both in the same census, 5pages apart, same district and both born Ireland.

I found a possible Theresa Hurst in the 1861 census. Born 1850 M/c living with a Mary Henny born 1811 Ireland:  District 26, Folio 94, Pg 39

Searching for Mary Hurst, Theresa's mother I found a possible in 1861 living with another Mary Henny born 1797 Ireland cited as the Head. There is a Emma Mary Hurst born 1852 M/c.  Then a Mary Hurst (my possible) born 1822 Ireland cited as daughter and a William Edward Hurst born 1850 (someone I was also searching for) cited as 'son'. District 26 Folio 91 Pg 34

Then in 1871 I find my Mary Hurst born 1823, now in Manchester living with a William Hurst birth year now 1854 born M/C.
Theresa is down as Thomas although the age is placed in the female columns born 1850 M/C.

Are the Mary Hennys sister-in-laws? Mother and daughter-in-law? Mother and daughter? Cousins? Totally unrelated?

Or is this all purely coincidence?
