Ireland / Wm. Brown & Margaret Smith
« on: Tuesday 18 August 09 11:42 BST (UK)  »
My gggg-grandfather came from Ulster, Ireland.  William Brown, born abt 1778 married Margaret Smith.  They left and came to Newport Corner, Hants Co., Nova Scotia, Canada.  With such common names it has been like searching for a needle in a haystack to find anything on them before coming to Canada.

They supposedly came here via ship in the company of friends with the name of Palmer.  My grandfather's middle name was Palmer.  I have even tried searching using the theory of the tradition of naming the first born son after the father's father(or grandfather of the child) and the first born daughter after the mother's mother.

Their firstborn son's name was Hugh Brown and daughter was Sarah.  Not sure if any children were born in Ireland before embarking or not.

Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks;
Susieque

Derry (Londonderry) / Pickering/Pickram/Pickern - Glassey marriage
« on: Thursday 13 August 09 02:40 BST (UK)  »
James Pickering was born in Aughrim, Magherafelt, Londonderry in abt 1801 and Sarah Glassey in the same area in abt 1805.  They married in the same area in abt 1828.

Any information on their births, marriage, children born in Irealand and or parentage would be greatly appreciated.

I had been told they came via ship from Scotland, but all records and census have said they are Irish.   They came to Nova Scotia, Canada, supposedly via the port of Pictou, NS around 1840.  I've had no luck with ships lists as yet.

Thanks;

Derry (Londonderry) / PICKERING
« on: Thursday 13 August 09 01:08 BST (UK)  »
Hello;

I was wondering if you could check to see if you have a James and Sarah Pickering (or some other variation of the spelling like Pickeram/Pickern, etc.)  They were married in Aughrim,Magherafelt, Londonderry in either 1826 or 1828 and would have a child or two by this time.  They were both born in this area as well.  They were protestants.

In 1831, he would have been 30 yrs old and she would have been about 26.

Thanks;
Susieque
