Lincolnshire / Section plan of Scartho Road Cemetery
« on: Sunday 30 May 21 16:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am hoping that someone can help me with a section plan of Scartho Road Cemetery.  I am searching for the grave of Charles Colin Lusby, on behalf of my sister in law who lives in Canada.  Charles Colin was her brother and died on 6th December 1941 age 4 years and was buried on the 10th December 1941.  I have a copy of the burial register which tells me that Charles Colin is buried in section 123, Row C, grave no. 6.

My sister in law told me that he had a wooden cross, which their father used to go and give a coat of varnish, from time to time.  When she mentioned a wooden cross, I thought that there was no way that was still going to be there after 80 years, but I spent 2 hours yesterday looking round the cemetery at as many wooden crosses I could find and I was surprised to find there were still some there from that time and before but sadly not one for Charles.

As I didn't know where section 123 was, I am not sure that I was looking in the right place, so any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Diana

Armed Forces / Title of a military march
« on: Thursday 03 December 20 18:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I hope this isn't an inappropriate request.  If it is, please delete it.  I would like to know the title of a military march, the notes of which, I have attached below.  I am hoping that someone who has played in a military band might recognise it.

Thank you very much in advance.

Lincolnshire / rescue of a ships crew by George Prike, Skipper of the Leverton trawler
« on: Saturday 06 October 18 17:46 BST (UK)  »
I wondered if anyone could throw any light on a story I have been told, regarding the rescue of a ship's crew, by my relative George Prike.  It possibly happened around 1893 and I think George and his crew received awards for this.

At the time, George was Skipper of the trawler Leverton.  He was living in Grimsby in the 1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses, so possibly this ship sailed out of there.

Thanks for any help.

I don't know of anyone is able to help me.  I am researching the above Elizabeth Prike, born 30th December 1859 in Laceby, near Grimsby.  She married William Francis Sheppard on 8th November 1877.  His father's name according to the marriage record, was Francis Sheppard.

I have searched and searched, but cannot find anything at all as to what happened to them after the marriage.  I have also searched for the birth of William Francis Sheppard, and cannot find a birth for him either or any censuses for him before marriage.  I have searched censuses, death records, emigration records, although I do not have an international subscription to Ancestry, only the British one.

Can anyone suggest anything.

Thanks, Diana

Hi, I don''t know it will be possible for anyone to help me with this.  My great great grandfather John Prike, was born in 1819 in Botesdale, Suffolk, England.  The last trace of him I can find, is on the 1881 census for England, where he is age 62 and living in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, England, with his wife Margaret Prike (nee Youngs).  She is age 49 at this time.

There are two family trees on Ancestry, which suggest that he died in Alaska, U.S.A.  No date given.  I have tried contacting the two people who own these trees but have had no reply to my query.  Also, I cannot find a death for John in England which fits in with his correct age.

I know is it a bit of a needle in a haystack, but I wondered if there are any data bases for Alaska deaths which I could search.  I wouldn't want anyone to go to the time and trouble of searching themselves, I am happy to do it, and as I don't have a date of death, it might be a long job!

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Occupation for George Blacker please....
« on: Thursday 18 January 18 18:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Could anyone please tell me what the occupation of George Blacker is.  It looks like something Barman/Carman.  First word looks like Laundry but I don't see how that would fit with Barman/Carman.

Thanks, Diana

Hi,

Could anyone please tell me if there are online obituaries for the Chariton Democrat, Iowa, for February 1892.  The son of my 3 x great grandfather went to the U.S.A. from England and died on 4th February 1892 age 43.  His name was David Whitney.

Thanks for any help.

Nottinghamshire / Possible photograph of a grave in Southern Cemetery.......
« on: Monday 01 January 18 17:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,  I am wondering if anyone lives near Southern Cemetery, Wilford Hill, who could possible take a photo of a grave site for me please.

The grave is of my grandfather George Prike, buried 18th October 1957.  The section number is F16 and the grave number is 4.  I have a map of the cemetery which I can email, if anyone was able to go.  The only other thing is, this is a communal grave and I don't know if there would be a headstone, but it would be nice just to see the place of burial.

There is no rush for this, whenever anybody might be going, when the weather is better.

Thank you.

Nottinghamshire / burial record for George Prike in Nottingham 18th October 1957
« on: Friday 01 September 17 18:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am looking into the disappearance of the grandfather of a family member of mine.  He vanished from Grimsby in the late 1940's and was never seen again.  His wife was devastated at the time and although several family members searched for him, he was never found.

I have found a death for a George Prike in Nottingham, which is the right age and it says he died on 14th October 1957 and was buried on 18th October.  I wondered if anyone has access to burial records for Nottingham, although I know there will be more than one burial ground.  I do not live locally, so cannot attend the record office or the library.

Any help very much appreciated.
