« on: Wednesday 11 August 10 01:32 BST (UK)  »
I have a family on the 1901 and 1911 census living at Pembroke Place and Pembroke Road respectively. Any one have any idea what their nearest RC parish would be?

Tipperary / Sean Treacy Video
« on: Thursday 13 May 10 21:50 BST (UK)  »
Last year I was looking up some information about Sean Treacy (of the War of Independence) and I came upon a video on youtube, newsreel footage shot moments after Sean was shot on Talbot Street in Dublin. Apparently it's been deleted from youtube :( Link is at the bottom of Wiki Page - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Se%C3%A1n_Treacy_(Irish_Republican)

Anyone know of it, or where I could get it?

Thanks,
Ali

Dublin / Caroline Langstaff
« on: Sunday 18 April 10 19:57 BST (UK)  »
I am going to post this in the Dublin forum because it's the only information I am sure of.

My great great great grandfather, Michael Coyne, married a woman named Carolin Langstaff on the 27th of December 1852 in St. Pauls. No ages, addresses or parents are recorded, just the two witnesses, 'Joseph Fegan' and 'Eliza Nicholas'.

I found the cert on the Irish Family History Foundation site but I can't find the marriage registered with the Civil Registration Index. So does this mean the information was just scribbled down in the church but never registered?

The rumour from a distant relative is that this woman came from France but with only a name, and no region, apparently I can't search French records. I think this might be the end for Caroline in my tree :( I have posted this information on a few sites but no luck. If anyone can think of anything I can try I'd love to hear from you!

Dublin / Duggans - Dublin
« on: Saturday 17 April 10 15:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone

Looking for anyone that might be related to this Duggan family from Dublin, Ireland.

Thomas Duggan married Julia Keely in around 1855-58.

They had seven children, that I know of;

Thomas (my great great grandfather) b.1858
Julia Frances b.1860
William Henry b.1861
Sylvester John b.1863
Teresa Mary b.1865
Alphonsus b.1867
Christina Catherine b.1871

Sylvester died at age 3, it seems.

According the 1911 census, Julia is living by herself, single, as a Dressmaker.

Christina and her mother Julia are living together. Both are widows. Christina is also a dressmaker and her married name is Turley. There are no children mentioned.

Alphonsus married a woman named Christina O'Brien. They had a lot of kids!
Frances b.1893
Thomas b.1895
Evaline b.1897
Alphonsus b.1899
Henry b.1903
Fergus b.1906
Eileen b.1908
Edmund b.1910

According to the 1939-40 Electoral Register, I THINK there may have been at least two more children after 1911, Frederick and George. Alphonsus Sr. is a 'Printer Compositor'(?) and the eldest daughter Frances is a shopgirl in a Pork Butcher's.

My great great grandfather Thomas, married a woman named Mary. We think her surname was Hyland but have been able to prove it as of yet. I'm working on it!

They had at least ten children as of 1911, although two have died. The census states they are married 28 years. Two are not in the household and I have yet to find them. The children still in the house are as follows;
William c.1886
Thomas c.1888
John c.1892 (my great grandfather)
Evaline c.1894
Francis c.1898
Mary c.1902

There is also a granddaughter, Mary, who is three but I have no idea who's child she is. I'm presuming one of the boys as her surname is Duggan.

Thomas Sr. is a House Carpenter. William and Thomas Jr. are both 'Engine Fitters at Works'. John is a 'Motor Fitter at Works'. Evaline is a 'Milliner at Factory'.

John married a woman named Claire Coyne and they had three children, Patrick, Marie and John (my grandfather).

Phew! After all that, I hope someone here recognizes this family!

Hi everyone,

this is my great uncle William Duggan. I'm looking to get this photo dated. I think it's a Garda uniform? Or does it pre-date that?

William was born in 1886.

I wouldn't mind a restore if anyone wants the chance :)

Thanks!
Ali

Edit : My file is too large! I'll come back with a smaller one

US Lookup Requests / DEENEY/GIBNEY NY/NJ
« on: Friday 19 March 10 16:26 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking to find a birth cert for a Claire Deeney, born circa 1911, in New Jersey or it could even be New York.

Her father was Charles Deeney, from Northern Ireland (maybe Donegal). Her mother is a Gibney from Oldcastle, Co. Meath in Ireland but we're not sure of the mother's name. We're expecting it to be Bridget (Gibney).

However on the 1930 census, we have found the family with the mother listed as Margaret. There was a sister of Bridget named Margaret. If anyone can find the family on earlier census' we would appreciate that information.

Thanks!

US Lookup Requests / Minnie Duggan/Crosby Census
« on: Tuesday 16 March 10 00:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hello :)

I was wondering if someone would be able to check the the 1900 and 1910 census for New York for me please? :)

In 1900 I'm looking for either Minnie A. Duggan or she may be Minnie A. Crosby at this stage. In 1910 she is definitely Minnie A. Crosby. I have found her on the 1920 and 1930 census' already.

I'm also wondering does anyone know where I would find her naturalization records? On the 1920 census it's stated that immigrated from Ireland in 1892(? - it's not very clear) and was naturalized in 1897(?).

However, on the 1930 census she claims that she immigrated in 1895.

Any help would be appreciated, I'm not familiar with U.S. searches :)

Thanks,
Alison

Cork / Uniform factory?
« on: Saturday 02 January 10 22:13 GMT (UK)  »
Happy New Year everyone!

I've been trying to get as much info from my gran as I can regarding our ancestors and she tells me the family were once involved in a uniform factory, she says for the British Army? In fact she says that they ran it. Now I know how stories can change as they pass down through the generations so I would like to establish firstly if such factory existed.

They lived mainly in Charleville, and the surrounding areas so I figure it would have been in that area. Also possible it may have been just over the border in Limerick? If anyone has any suggestions as to where I might find this kind of information, I'd love to hear from you :)
