Northamptonshire / Burton Lodge and Death/Daeth family of Burton Latimer 19th Century
« on: Friday 29 December 23 22:24 GMT (UK)  »
Wondering if anyone has any information on Burton Lodge, which accommodated a number of families, mostly employees at Burton Latimer farms and mines in the 19th century (agricultural labourers and and later ironstone miners). Burton Lodge does not feature on the Burton Latimer website, but is recorded on sequential Census records through the 19th Century. Families listed include John Death and William Death and families. Does it have another name in the historical record such as Cottages etc?

I'm interested in Thomas and Elizabeth Dent of Brigg Broughton 1750s to 1770s. Does anyone have any information on this family. It may link to Dents of Mancetter.

Orkney / Gravestone Look up Westray
« on: Tuesday 15 September 09 04:43 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone would be able to check for a gravestone for Stewart Burger (nee Foules), who died sometime between 1841 census and December 1842, when her husband George Burgar remarried. For the 1841 Census she was on Papa Westray with her family, but the family moved back to Westray before 1851 Census. In 1851 the family were living in the Crowly House (not sure where that is/was), and George was farming a 3 acre holding. There is no gravestone on Papa Westray, so I thought she might be buried on Westray.

Ireland / Dent, Agen, Hetherington families of Ireland 18th Century
« on: Saturday 12 September 09 10:43 BST (UK)  »
I have an ancestor, William Owen Kitchener Dent, who I believe may have been born in Ireland around 1802. His father, son and several grandsons (latter born in Australia) were named Thomas Agen (Agin) Dent. I believe the Agen family are from Ireland, and originally south western france (pre- 14th Century). The names Hetherington and Kitchener are also relevant. From online research I have done, the Dents are present in records from Dublin City, Wexford, Westmeath, Galway and Mayo counties. Would anyone have any information relating to these families? I believe that the Dents are anglo-irish with close ties to Lancashire and West Yorkshire.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Thomas Dent and Ann Foxcroft
« on: Friday 11 September 09 08:20 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone knows anything about these two. They were married in 1745 in Kirkby Lonsdale. The Foxcroft family owned Hallsteads at Ingleton. I believe that Thomas Dent may be related to the Dents of Warton, Lancashire.

Travelling People / Gypsies of Shoreditch

I have an ancestor named Ellenor (Eleanor) Beasley. Her parents were Joseph Beasley and Susanna Davis, who were married at St Leonards, Shoreditch in 1801. Eleanor was born in Coventry in 1808. Family tradition has it that Eleanor was part Gypsy. The names of her children (including Mazeppa, Zenobia and Zoe) seem to support this claim. She married William Owen Kitchener Dent in 1831. William's parents were not happy about this. I suspect that his family sponsored his move to South Australia in 1839 to join the new colony of free settlers. Somewhere along the line it was said that we would never find William's roots. However, I am a determined soul. I wonder if anyone else has heard of this story, or has data on Eleanor and her parents?
