World War One / Look up request Cheshire Regiment - Frank Payton b1889 Bury, lancs
« on: Thursday 01 April 10 22:38 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone please help with a look up for any record on my grandfather, please.
Full name Frank Payton b1889 Bury, Lancs
from an old photo someone has helped me to identify the regiment as the Cheshire. I don't have any other information than that as he died when my mother was still young. all I do know is he lived all his life in Bury, Lancashire (apart from his service in the army).
Any help would be very gratefully received indeed as nothing is known about him.
Thank you

Armed Forces / help with medal identification please?
« on: Tuesday 30 March 10 01:42 BST (UK)  »
Please could anyone help to solve a puzzle. This photo and a letter with a coat of arms and wax seal were kept in perfect condition in some family papers.
The letter is signed from Captain F M Martin and was sent from Siam (Thailand) in 1901 to my great grandparents. The letter is very personal in the way it is written so we are guessing he was close to them.
I have looked into the coat of arms and it is The King of Siam's Coat of Arms (The first one used in Thailand), soon dropped after his reign. Apparently it is still used on the cap badges of the Thai police force but that is all I can find out.
He was apparently there supervising building work building a 'Mint?'.
Any light anyone can shed on him would be fantastic, maybe through his medals or anything.

Armed Forces / Please help to identify regiment
« on: Tuesday 30 March 10 01:15 BST (UK)  »
Please could anyone help me to find out what regiment my grandfather served in. He died when my mother was only 12 and there is only 1 surviving photo of him. It shows him in uniform at what looks line some sort of barracks.
If it helps he was born in Bury, Lancashire where he lived all his life as far as we know. His parents were and older sister were from Ireland (not sure what part).
My mother has mentioned many times she would love to know more about him and the background from this photo. I have tried to look up the cap badges previously without any success so any help anyone can give would be extreemely helpful.

Is there anyone that would be able to help me trace the birth records for Jane Elizabeth Norman b. 1881/2 Paddington London.

on the 1901 census she is working as a cook in Scarrington age 19 in the ecclesiastical parish of Aslockton, Nottingham. Birth place given as Paddington, London

Her marriage cert from Jan 8th 1902 gives her fathers name as William Henry Norman - Bricklayer (deceased).

I have as yet not been able to find any birth record or census record before 1901 for her so that I can identify her parents and other possible siblings.

If anyone can help I would be extreemely grateful for any insight on this side of the family.
