Laois (Queens) / Question regarding Civil Registration Death Index
« on: Sunday 10 February 13 13:05 GMT (UK)  »
I have searched the Civil Registration Index for deaths on a couple of online sources (FamilySearch and Ancestry).  Included in the search results is a field entitled "mother's maiden name" but in all of the records I have looked at this field is always empty.  Do the actual records generally contain this information?  The time frame I am interested in is the early twentieth century.

Thank you,
Phil

Laois (Queens) / Clonaslee Cemetery lookup request
« on: Friday 01 February 13 11:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hello.  If anyone has access to Catholic Cemetery records of Clonaslee or is willing to visit the cemetery or cemeteries on my behalf please contact me.  I am trying to find my Dunne ancestors buried in the area (see my 30 January post  Dunn/Dunne of Cloonagh Beg, Clonaslee).  If willing to help me out I can provide more specific details and would always be grateful.

Thank you,
Phil Tomlinson

Laois (Queens) / Dunn/Dunne of Cloonagh Beg, Clonaslee
« on: Thursday 31 January 13 00:22 GMT (UK)  »
I am a descendant of Peter Dunn and Mary McCabe of Cloonagh Beg in Clonaslee parish.  Their son, my gr-gr-grandfather, William was born October 10, 1826.  In 1850 he immigrated to the United States and after a few years in Lowell, Massachusetts settled in Decatur, Illinois.  Three siblings also came to the United States:  Bernard, Peter, and Mary.  The 1901 census of Cloonagh Beg lists John Dunne, aged 86, and his family.  I am assuming that John and William were brothers.  John Dunne and Mary Anne (Murray?) had the following known children:  Peter, Bridget, Bernard, John, and William.
The obituary of Mary Dunn, who I mentioned above, is dated May of 1895 and references "two brothers and one sister still living in Ireland".  I am assuming that John Dunne was one of these brothers.  Are there other researchers and descendants out there of Peter Dunn and Mary McCabe of Cloonagh Beg?

Thanks,

I now see there are transcribed registers for St. Bede's (thank you 'paslwigr').  I am looking for any reference to the Fox family in the St. Bede's, Clayton Green registers (RC).  Specifically anything relating to Thomas and Ellen Fox who were married at Garstang in 1816 and per the 1841 Census (Brindle) had the following children:

Ann born approximately 1818
Thomas born approximately 1819
Robert born approximately 1823
Mary born approximately 1824
Elizabeth born approximately 1830.

Any information (if available) would be of interest, including the godparents at baptisms, marriages, burials, etc.  Thank you and let me know if additional information is needed.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Bamber christenings at Kirkham ca. 1700
« on: Sunday 25 July 10 15:58 BST (UK)  »
I have not been able to find access to the Kirkham registers for the years around 1700.  If anyone has access could you look to see if there are any children of Thomas Bamber baptized from ca. 1700-1717?  Thomas Bamber's wife was Margaret.  I live in the U.S. so am unable to visit local libraries in Lancashire.  Thank you.

Lancashire / Registers of Estates of Lancashire Catholics: Thomas Bamber
« on: Saturday 01 May 10 16:22 BST (UK)  »
I have the following information, quoted below, regarding my ancestor Thomas Bamber.  Are there sources that I can reference in order to build upon this information?  This Thomas Bamber began life around 1660 in the Poulton Le Fylde area, lived for a time in Mowbreck and then Cottam, finally settling in Over Wyresdale around 1717.  The date 1717 seems to be key as I am told it has something to do with the Stuart rebellion, Catholic gentry, and land confiscation.  My goal is to find the connection between this Thomas Bamber (and his father William) and the Bambers of Poulton Le Fylde, who were a well known Catholic family in that area (The Bambers of "The Moor").  The wife of Thomas, the Margaret referenced below, is his second wife.  Her name was Margaret Gant from Great Singleton.  (I am descended from Thomas' first wife Elizabeth.)  Thomas Bamber died at Hawthornthwaite, Over Wyresdale in 1726.  Maybe I am just being greedy, as this alredy gives me a lot of information, but here goes:

In "The Registers of Estates of Lancashire Papists, 1717-1788 Volume III 1717 (The Record Society of Lancashire and Cheshire, vol. 117) he is described as "Thomas Bamber of Cottam, Yeoman.  Messuage, 67 ac., in the vaccary of Hathornthwaite, held from William Cawthorne, gent, to William, decd, father of T.B., rent 42s. yearly, a heriot and suit in court.  In posession of William and Edmund Winder, rent 20.10. yearly.

Close, 8 ac. in Hathornthwaite, held from John Cawthorne, gent., rent 8 s. yearly, keeping a hound and grinding at the mill.  In possession of William and Edmund Winder with above.
Third of messuage, 12 ac. 1r., 3 fails in par. Poulton, held from Sir Alexander Rigby to Margaret (wife of T.B.) Lathom, widow, rent 12s. yearly and chief rents 3s. 4d. to Crown.  Let to John Johnson, Thomas Garner, John Hoole and William Watson, rent 15 (pounds) yearly. 1/3 paid to T.B. and 2/3 to Mark and Ann Lytham.  Subject to 6 (pounds) 9s. to Alexander Rigby.

Third of 1 ac. in Holme in Thornton held from Mabel and Margaret Hodgkinson to Margaret H (wife of T.B.) by name of Margaret Lytham, rent 12d. yearly.  The other 3rds held by Mark and Anne Lytham.  In possession of Robert Roscow, rent 1(pound) 1s. 6d. yearly.  Third of 3 closes in Holme in Thornton called Arleys, 5 ac. held from Henry Charnley to Mark Lytham, rent 5s. yearly.  Assigned to Richard Harrison of Bankfield.  In possession of Henry Helm, rent 3(pounds) 10s.
All above subject to debt of 77(pounds) 2s. 11d."

Property listed in the1726 will of Thomas Bamber of Hawthornthwaite, Over Wyresdale:

Lower end of the house, Well Field, Lower Field, Jams Paddock, with two beast gates in Corn Close in Eddigetime, Bond Field, Bond Barn, dale in Roplat belonging to Lowerhouse, Common land in the Corn Field (left to wife Margaret).
Higher part of the house, and all the land that belomgs to Lowerhouse that lies in Corn Close, with the little meadow lying at the lower end of Roplat,Whitendale Garth and all the remaining part of the ancient tenemant excepting what was given to wife Margaret and son Richard (left to son William).
The two Wirefields and Barn, Threlforfield, Greenwood Gate with Doholm Top which is to be joined to Lowerhouse (left to son Richard).

Lancashire / Is there a burial index for Garstang parish?
« on: Sunday 23 November 08 00:42 GMT (UK)  »
I am seeking burial information for John Turner of Barnacre with Bonds who died February 19, 1829.  Wife Elizabeth was still alive at the time of John's death but probably did not live too long afterward (they were of advanced age).  Does anyone have access to record of these burials?  Thank you.
