Lancashire / Henry Ashton
« on: Wednesday 10 February 21 08:37 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone please help with this name. Henry Ashton born around 1807 in Halewood I have tried unsuccessfully for some time on various websites to locate the birth of this man. I know he married twice. First to Ann (Lee) and after her death to Sarah Stewart. He was a gardener and appears in several census forms as born in Halewood. On his first marriage the witnesses are Ralph and Margaret Ashton. In the 1841 census there is a Ralph and Margaret Ashton living in Halewood Green, parents John and Elizabeth. I believe this could be his parentage but cannot find proof. There is a Henry Ashton born to a John and Betty Ashton born around the same time in Burtonwood but I believe he died age 29. The Henry I seek died in Southport in the 1880s.
Most grateful for any information or pointers in the right direction.

Family History Beginners Board / Davies Tree
« on: Friday 15 November 19 07:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hello. I am having great difficulty trying to trace information about the birth etc. of James Henry Davies, born about 1832-4. His father on wedding registration is George Davies a basket maker. James was also a basket maker. George was married to Jane Brook who died about 1832 and he remarried. Possible a woman called Sutcliffe, possibly someone called Meadows. There is a James Henry Meadows whose father was also a basket maker about the same time. It is possible that James was adopted and changed his name. I would be grateful for any advice..The tree they are on is just called Davies.

Lancashire / Herdman family
« on: Saturday 28 October 17 17:44 BST (UK)  »
Henry Herdman, 1715, Gawin Herdman, 1717 and Richard Herdman 1728 share a common father, John Herdman possibly married to Sarah? I believe John's brother, Thomas, was an ancestor of the famous Liverpool artist W.G. Herdman. The name Gawin or Gowan is common throughout the families trees and it is possible that the father of John and Thomas was gawin hardman who married Agnes Fox in 1681.
Has anyone any research knowledge of the family of W.G. Herdman and the links to the Pilling, Cockerham and Garstang area of Lancashire?

Thank you

Lancashire / Sabina Regan in Herdman family tree
« on: Tuesday 17 October 17 12:37 BST (UK)  »
I am following a name, Sabina Regan later Sabina Murphy, through census sheets from 1851 to 1911.
Daughter of Martin Regan (Raigan in 1851) and Bridget. Reputedly born in North Wales but I can find no record of her birth. There appears to be a continuity of family and children in the records except for 1881 where there is a woman called Mary Staunton at the same address who would appear to be her mother although other records have her mother as Bridget. There are various disparities in ages in all of the census forms so I am wondering if I have crossed different Sabinas. I did find a Sabina Staunton born in Ireland in 1845 but this would go against the other evidence.
Any ideas anyone how best to proceed or if you think I have confused persons in the census.
Thanks

Lancashire / Herdman or Hardman Pilling, Poulton le Fylde and Lancaster areas
« on: Friday 20 January 17 07:46 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I am looking in to the connection between a friend of mine, surname Herdman, and the Liverpool artist W.G. Herdman. I believe I have found it(?) but in expanding the connection around 1700 I find that many of the names which ostensibly should be Herdman are registered as Hardman. There are common Christian names most notably Gawin or Gowin which seem to go across both surnames but too many coincidences of date and names incorporating both spellings.
Has anyone else researched these names from around the Pilling, Poulton le Fylde and Lancaster areas or any knowledge that may help.

Thanks and regards

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Sabina Regan
« on: Saturday 17 September 16 14:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I am researching a Winifred Murphy born in 1884 who married Patrick McHugh in 1900. Her mother's name was Sabina Regan who I believe was born in North Wales in Wrexham. Her parents were Martin and Bridget (?). She married a Michael Murphy, when I do not know but probably 1896 although her children were born prior to this date. Sabina Regan appears in several census including 1851 and 1861 where her name is spelt incorrectly and she is registered as 12 years old. Later census have her a decade younger. I am not sure if I am confusing Sabina's as there is another of that name who also seems to be married to a Michael Murphy but with the maiden name Staunton.
Does anyone have any information regarding Sabina Regan to help alleviate my deepening confusion?

Thanks

Lancashire / Osborne Grove, Liverpool
« on: Wednesday 23 March 16 10:47 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know the whereabouts of a group of Groves that existed in Liverpool just before WW2.
They are or were somewhere around Queens Road, Everton. The names are Osborne Grove, Windsor Grove and there may have been others. I have looked on various maps with no luck but they are named in the 1939 registration.

Thanks
