Australia / John Brownen Riddell
« on: Thursday 17 July 14 09:18 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for information on John (Jack) Brownen Riddell who died in 1916 in WWI.  His parents were Martha and john Riddell.  They lived in Sydney in the early 1900s.  Martha and John Riddell arrived with two children on the 'Northbrook' in 1879, from Plymouth UK.
I would like to correspond with anyone researching this family or the Lightbody family that Martha was born to approx. 1848, father William Lightbody. Martha died in Sydney Australia in 1933 and is buried at Rookwood Cemetery NSW.

Kent / Blanch family help needed
« on: Tuesday 23 August 11 05:21 BST (UK)  »
i have had some wonderful results thru rootschat on other families i am researching, and am hoping someone will be able to help me with this problem.
i have a jane elizabeth BLANCH (1857-1922) iden who married alfred ashdown (1844-1898)peasmarsh  in 1877in rye.
jane's parents were john blanche (1816/7-1892) mersham and elizabeth butchers (1824-1862.) rye married 1845 in rye.
john blanches parents were ROBERT blanche (1782-1860) rolvenden and charlotte branchard (1786-1823.) marrried may 1808 Hackington kent. all were around the mersham, rolvenden, rye areas of kent or sussex.
i am trying to verify if this family is linked to an EDWARD Blanch (1785-1860) Rolvenden, who emigrated to australia in 1838 with his many children after his wife maria ashdown died. his parents were robert blanch (1753-1831) and elizabeth brann (1755-1791). they were also from the rolvenden area in kent.
many online family trees give these two (Robert and Edward) as having the same parents, but i have been unable to verify this.
in other requests i was told i didn't give enough info, i hope i have this time. i have the census details back to 1841, but don't have any proper records futher back than that.
thank you to anyone who looks up any of these details

Staffordshire / annie tomlinson in 1911 census
« on: Friday 22 July 11 09:31 BST (UK)  »
i haven't been able to find annie davis tomlinson born 1895 in burton on trent in the 1911 census

i have her on the 1901 census, and her parents, john 1868 and catherine 1864  tomlinson and their other children also in burton on trent on the 1911 census.
i presume she was working, but haven't been able to find her. the transcriptions in the 1911 census are not always accurate, but i have tried different spellings to no avail.

annie and her brother (william) John 1892 came to australia in 1913, so they should be there.
if anyone has a hint for me i would appreciate it.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / john brennan or brend clarke
« on: Friday 22 July 11 09:18 BST (UK)  »
i have been researching this relative, born in london area in 1828. the family name 'Brennan' was passed down to his sons and grandsons. another researcher has found the same person and descendants but the middle name is 'brend', as his father william clarke 1801 and married elizabeth brend 1803.
the census records i have for john and elizabeth (stone) clarke list him as either john clarke or john b clarke and i cannot confirm the middle name. the marriage record for john and elizabeth in 1850 does not have a middle name. john and elizabeth's sons and grandsons carried the middle name 'brennan'.

the children of john and elizabeth are
john brennan clarke 1851, william 1854, elizabeth 1856, alfred 1861, annie and harry.

the children of alfred  1861 and rebecca tomlinson are
lillian 1897, george brennan 1894, florence 1892, john henry 1888, william alfred 1884 etc

is it likely they changed this family name?

Australia / John Henry Ivett DENMAN
« on: Thursday 07 July 11 01:43 BST (UK)  »
i am looking for a death date for this person. his parents were john denman and frances ivett. john henry was born in cheltenham SA, and all his children were born here. his wife hannah mary (Steer) died in SA in 1950, so i am presuming he died in SA.
i have quite a lot of info, but just can't find a death date for him. his father john denman died in SA in 1903.

Australia / Sarah BEATON (nee McLEAN) of victoria
« on: Monday 04 July 11 10:19 BST (UK)  »
was wondering if anyone else knows of sarah anne maud mclean who married william beaton in 1896 in victoria. her parents were william mclean and mary gascoyne (gascoine). i have traced (i think) mary gascoine back to george and margaret who arrived on the 'England' in 1841 to port phillip bay with mary (13 mnths). i haven't been able to find anything on the family after that.
on sarah's death certificate it says she was born in victoria around 1877, and that her mother's name was mary gasgoyne, so i have been trying different spellings.i have a few aust census records for sarah in WA, and she remarried to william powell in the 1940s - she seems to have had a thing for men with the name william.

Armagh / george gascoine
« on: Monday 04 July 11 03:44 BST (UK)  »
i am wondering if anyone knows of the family of george gascoine.
i have a record of him arriving in australia in 1841 on the ship England with his wife margaret, children thomas (6), Julia (5) and Mary (13 mnths). on the ship record it states that george was 29 and from Armagh. the family came with bounty paid by A B Smith and Co.
i am interested in mary, as i think she is the grandmother of a family i am tracing, but cannot find anything on her in australia or ireland.
hoping someone can shed some light for me
