Hi Rootschatters

I was hopeful that one of you experts out there can advise me on which area Drumchapel would have came under during the latter part of 1800s and early 1900s?

Many thanks in advance

Paul

Australia / Deserter from HM service
« on: Wednesday 06 September 17 00:18 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I have just discovered my great grandfather was a deserter from H.M.S Karrakatta in Newcastle, New South Wales, when he was 16 years old in 1897.

I know it's a bit of a long shot.. but wondering why he would have deserted his ship and what would have been the punishment for this?

Thanks

Paul

Hello

Not sure if this is the right place to post this....

I would like to look up a Merchant Seaman's records (3 x great grandfather), and i live to far from the national archives to get there, and the cost they charge for a look up is unreal, and i was just wondering if someone could maybe have a look for me the next time they are there?

I am not sure how easy it is, but just thought i would ask.

Many thanks in advance

Monaghan / Marriage - Monaghan
« on: Wednesday 27 July 16 18:28 BST (UK)  »
Hello

Hoping to find a marriage for my 3 x gr grandparent, James Duffy and Catherine Mcmurray

I am assuming Monaghan, as this is where their daughters were born, Elizabeth Duffy and Maryann/Ann

Elizabeth was born around 1845, so the marriage would most likely been around or before this year.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Paul
