Australia / Patrick Mckenna- convict in Wellington area NSW
« on: Wednesday 08 July 20 11:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi all. Just wondering if anyone might see any further details for a Patrick McKenna who was possibly living in the Wellington area for a decade or so.
I have him as a convict arriving on the lady mcnaughton in 1835 having being tried in Louth that year for stealing clothes. He got his ticket of leave in Wellington in 1841 ( also known alias mckiernan).
He got his certificate of freedom in 1846.
I can see a child james born in 1858 to Patrick and Catherine mckenna. This could be him. I can also see an article on trove showing a Patrick mckenna was in bathurst gaol for three months hard labour in July 1860 for receiving stolen property.
Looking for any further details of this man. A death perhaps?

Australia / Northmead NSW - SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS!
« on: Tuesday 07 July 20 08:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi all. Hoping someone reading might have copies of photographs from 1950s and 60s of Northmead Public School. Also after early 1960s for Northmead High School. Thanks, Katharine.

Hi all. Apologies if this query had already been answered on this forum previously.
My grandfather was illegitimate. I did an ancestry DNA test but nobody seems to be 'connected' through this line.
My grandfather had a son (my dad) and I have a brother. I was considering Y-DNA to hopefully find answers.

My question therefore is: which companies (with availablity in Australia) have the best Y-DNA testing. And more importantly, which companies will show database matches just as Ancestry DNA does.

Thanks, Katharine.

Hi all. Hoping someone can help me out. I have found newspaper article referring to a Francis S. Gore (also noted as a Francis Saunders Gore, and as Professor) who was living and working in Richmond, Virginia in the 1830s.
Can anyone see him in this area or later? I am looking for any spouse or children he might have had, or what became of him?
Thanks, Katharine.

Hi all. Hoping someone might be able to give me a point in the right direction. Whilst searching for an ancestor on Google books last night I came across a great reference in an old book. It contained a letter from the Surveyor General's Office and was dated 1812. It seems that there were documents pertaining to claims to land in Ireland that were housed in the Court of Claims and had escaped the Fire of 1711. The documents seemed to have needed sorting through and cataloging. There is a further page that indicates the 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th reports from the commissioners respecting the Public Records of Ireland dated 1816-1820. My ancestors's reference was in the supplement to the 8th report dated 1819.

I had a quick look at the National Archives website and searched in their catalog but could not see anything of relevance. Where could these documents now be? Would they have perished in the 20thC fires in Dublin?

I should also mention that the claims in this report pertain to land given to adventurers and soldiers from Cromwell's era.

Look forward to some guidance on this issue. Thanks, Katharine.

England / Locating sold antiques associated with family.
« on: Wednesday 15 January 20 12:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all. I know this is a long shot. Just wondering if anyone out there in UK has a good knowledge of antique trade and can advise me on the possibility of tracking down family items that are presume to have been sold.
In 1877 an article described a set of (inscribed) pewter dinner plates that were owned by the family for a long time and still in their possession at that date. I am assuming that at some stage since then they plates might have been sold in the UK (on the assumption a branch of the family does not still hold them, but I don't think there were children to pass them on to).
Would there be any way of tracking them down? Auction catalogues or some such?
Thanks, Katharine.

Australia / Early NSW church registers lookup wanted please.
« on: Sunday 17 March 19 08:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all. I am after a lookup from early NSW church registers if anyone has access. The indexes are online, but I wonder if the original entries are on any websites??
The one I am after is a death in 1827. If you can help please PM me for details.

If I applied for one from registry what information would I get? More than the church register?
