Hi I am trying to help a freind with her family hiistory and i am struggling to get back on her Buchannan line. Her grandfather Joseph buchannan was born 17 January 1909 or 17 January 1910(there is some confussion as to which year is correct) at 10 Backcauseway Glasgow (father James). I wonder if anyone access to baptism records or census returns. Any help will be most appreciated.

Hi I wonder if anyone has access to marriages for Chesterfield for the above couple.  I am doing a very basic tree for my freinds birthday and have been fortunate on most of her ancestors as they were good surnames and I was able to access a lot of on line data, however on this branch I cant get any further on John Nicholsons line with out access to the data from the marriage certificate as the only piece of information I know for certain is that he married Alice Winfield. I dont have a birth or death record for him.

Any help will be most appreciated.

Hi,

I wonder if someone would be kind enough to have a look at a marriage for me? The marriage in question is between Joshua Drake and Mary White Doncaster 2 February 1801. I would like to know the status of the bride and groom and who the witnesses were. Many thanks in anticipation.

Hi

I wonder if some one would be kind enough to do a Marriage look up for Doncaster? The couple in question are Benjamin Precious and Mary Wilkinson. They married 5th January 1829. I am trying to help a friend who is relatively new to family history and Mary Wilkinson is proving to be very difficult to establish who her parents were. I am hoping that the marriage may show witnesses that will take the search forward. However, conformation of the father's name and occupation may help.

Many thanks,

Sandra

Shropshire / Help needed with William Wood
« on: Wednesday 05 March 14 08:17 GMT (UK)  »

I am having another go at trying to research William – he is a bit of a problem. William married Elizabeth Fletcher in 1839 Wolverhampton– his marriage details are on freereg

http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/SearchResults.pl?RecordType=Marriages&RecordID=3584162

This record shows his father to be John Wood, occupation miner. William is on two census’ in 1841 he is living with his wife and daughter in Staffordshire –

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&db=uki1841%2c&pgt=punt&rank=1&gsfn=sarah&gsln=wood&gsby=1840&gsb2co=3251%2cEngland&gsb2pl=5284%2cStaffordshire&gsdy=&gsd2co=1%2cAll+Countries&gsd2pl=1%2c+&sbo=0&sbor=&ufr=0&wp=4%3b_80000002%3b_80000003&srchb=r&prox=1&ti=5538&ti.si=0&gss=angs-d&pcat=35&fh=13&h=9662228&recoff=6+7&ml_rpos=14

On the 1851 census he is still living in Staffordshire –

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&db=uki1851%2c&pgt=punt&rank=1&gsfn=sarah&gsln=wood&gsby=1840&gsb2co=3251%2cEngland&gsb2pl=5284%2cStaffordshire&gsdy=&gsd2co=1%2cAll+Countries&gsd2pl=1%2c+&sbo=0&sbor=&ufr=0&wp=4%3b_80000002%3b_80000003&srchb=r&prox=1&ti=5538&ti.si=0&gss=angs-d&pcat=35&fh=11&h=8566101&recoff=5+6&ml_rpos=12

One of the problems I have is that his age varies depending on the source. In 1839, on his marriage details, his birth year is recorded as 1813, 1841 his age is given as 1816, and in 1851 his birth year is 1811.

According to the 1851 census his place of birth is Wrockwardine Shopshire. So as I am assuming this is accurate I have looked for a baptism in Wrockwardine. The only baptism was that of William Wood with parents John and Susannah (baptism -30 Nov 1817)However, when this is tracked through the census returns William is living with his parents in 1841 and his father is a wheelwright not a miner(occupation of William’s father given on the marriage record of Freereg).

Back to the drawing board. I have found another possible baptism in Wombridge, Shropshire – William Wood baptised 15 Apr1810 parents John and Dariety/Dorothey. Wombridge is not too far away from Wrockwardine and according to genuki  Wombridge is a mining area, so this would tie in with Williams father’s occupation.

I have tried to track William’s parents and siblings through bmd’s and census returns and this is where I am struggling.

There appears to be three other siblings:
Sarah christening 8 Mar 1812, Margaret christening 26 June 1808, John Christening 18 June 1807

However, once I tried to look for John and Dariety/Dorothy on the census returns the plot thickens.
There is a Dorothy wood born 1784 Wrockwardine living in the parish of Wrockwardine (Sub registration district Wombridge) with 4 children living at home. There is no record of a husband.

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?rank=1&gsfn=dorothy&gsln=wood&gsby=1784&gsb2co=3251%2cEngland&gsb2pl=5282%2cShropshire&gsdy=&gsd2co=1%2cAll+Countries&gsd2pl=1%2c+&sbo=0&s

The other problem I have is I can’t find any baptisms for these children to establish if the children’s father is John. Also, I can’t find a marriage of John Wood and Dariety/Dorothy.

Thank you for staying with me on this one.  My ramblings are long but I wanted to fully explain my reasoning.

Any thoughts and help with William will be most welcome.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Marriage look up for Tickhill, Doncaster
« on: Tuesday 14 January 14 10:56 GMT (UK)  »
Please could I ask if someone would be kind enough to check a marriage for me. The marriage in question is George Burton and Mary Wilson. They married 26 Nov 1812 in Tickhill, Doncaster I am wondering if George had been previously married as I have found another marriage which may relate to him. If the status on the parish record shows that he is a Widower then I am more inclined to follow this up. Also,  please could I have the names of the witnesses.

Many thanks  in advance.

Somerset / Does any one have access to East Pennard Parrish records?
« on: Monday 13 January 14 13:44 GMT (UK)  »
My 3x Great Grand parents  John Mitchell and Ann Pike married in East Pennard 1 Mar 1813. I have record showing witnesses c/o freereg. However, I am hoping that the original marriage record may give a parish for John as I am struggling to find where and when John was baptised-he died in 1846 so I do not have a place of birth to help me.

Any help will be most welcome.

Somerset / Help with Elijah Bryant
« on: Monday 16 December 13 13:26 GMT (UK)  »
I have Elijah Bryant in my family tree born c1808 parents John and Martha Bryant. I do not have a baptism for Elijah and I did not make a note of the source for believing Elijah's parents were John and Martha(slaps wrist!). However, there are three Elijah Bryants born c1808. My Elijah should be born in the Stoke Lane area of Radstock. There is a Elijah born 1803 Babbington parents Charles and Betty and another Elijah Thomas born Stoke lane c1807. The third, also born in Stoke lane was born c1812 and moved to london. Elijah born 1803 and Elijah born c1812 both had wives named Jane born in Leigh, Somerset. So there is a real problem in sorting out Marriages and Census returns. One of the   Elijah's married Jane Flower 24 Dec 1835 Babbington. The marriage is on freereg but no name is given for the fathers and the witnesses do not help.  It is tempting to assume that this was the Elijah born 1803 but... this may not be the case. I am not sure of the Maiden name of the other Jane. She died 1864 in London and the Elijah who moved to London remarried Elizabeth Marilda Stutely in 1865 This Elijah's father was John. I do not know who the other Elijah married as he was widowed.

I am going round in circles with this one and I suspect I can't see the wood for the tree's. Any help or observations would be most appreciated.

Essex / James Swallow born c1803 Black Notley
« on: Tuesday 17 September 13 22:08 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find a baptism for James Swallow born c1803 Black Notley. I think he may be related to one of my direct ancestors as there is a James Swallow showing as a witness at a marriage between James Brewer and Elizabeth Hutley(James' mother was Ann Swallow). If any one could establish such a baptism I would be most grateful.
