Does anyone know the name of a soldier who fought and was injured in the Boer War. He returned to his parents who (I think) ran a shop in Inkpen and died of his injuries.

Someone kindly sent me a gedcom file via notepad. When I opened the file it was all in one "lump" including all the coding. I'm not very familiar with notepad, and am hoping that someone can tell me how to view/print it without the code, and hopefully looking like the original document.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I think I've traced my ancestry back to Elizabeth GOODCHILD of White Waltham in Berkshire. She had a sister, my ancestor, named Lucy.

Elizabeth married Thomas Neale and had a daughter, Lucy who married John Blanch and emigrated to Australia where they settled at Raymond Terrace, New South Wales.

I would be interested in locating a member of this family. who has descended through the maternal line and has had, or is willing to take a MTDna test, or any descendent of the family sho would like to investigate a connection

My grandmother had a sorry start to her life. She was born in the workhouse in 1882 the following year her mother married and set up home in the cottage next door to her parents, but was almost immediately widowed.

Mother and child had returned to the workhouse by the end of 1885,  they'd been admitted as paupers  around the middle of November 1885 (4th day of the seventh week of the half year ending on Lady Day 1886).  Soon after Lady Day my Gt Gt Grandfather was summonsed to could to show by he shouldn't support mother and child, and there the trail peters out.

The C1891 has my grandmother living with her grandparents but no sign of her mother then or since. Which, finally, brings me to my question, I can understand that if no-one else took them in, young children and the old and sick would normally stay in the workhouse, although I've the idea that there was some kind of fostering scheme, but what about the able bodied? If there was no suitable work for them locally would they  be sent off to distant parts to work? I've not found a single clue to the fate of my gt granny since then.

 
Ernest Hughes age 26 married Florence Lily Heath at on 28th July 1922 at Kensington Register Office. Hel gave his occupation as a Private in the above regiment and his address as 356 London Road Isleworth (Father Henry occ Mechanical Engineer). I'd like to find out a bit more about him.

Please can anyone tell me more about this regiment? eg where they were stationed in 1922 I've been searching the internet but it seems to have had a different name in 1922 and I would have thought his address would have been his barracks.
