Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Cause of Death
« on: Friday 13 April 18 17:50 BST (UK)  »
I'm hoping that some one out there can tell me the cause of death for my Mary and also her deceased father's occupation. I'm also having a bit of difficulty reading the informant's first name. I thought it may be James but haven't came across a birth for him yet.

Any help would be appreciated on this one thanks.

Graveyards and Gravestones / SOLVED What does "issue" mean on headstone?
« on: Thursday 29 November 12 09:59 GMT (UK)  »
Was wondering if anyone out there can answer this question.
I have a headstone and at the bottom it says "ISSUE 5 sons & 3 daughters".
Does this mean that the parents who are on the headstone are survived by the above number of children or does this mean the number of children that they had.
Many thanks
Diane

Roxburghshire / MI's for Roxburgh
« on: Thursday 08 January 09 11:05 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for any MI inscriptions for the WALDIE family, in particular James WALDIE & his wife Jean WRIGHT.
There was a previous posting offering look-ups, but I believe they are no longer able to do it due to ill health.
I would appreciate it if any kind person out there is able to do a look up for me.

Wigtownshire / Marriage by special licence
« on: Thursday 31 January 08 09:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
This may sound like a stupid question, but I have a marriage certificate which states in the column for "a regular marriage or irregular marriage" the following:-
"WARRANT OF SHERIFF SUBSTITUTE OF DUMFRIES & GALLOWAY DATED 11TH NOVEMBER 1905" which was the date of the marriage.

What exactly does this mean?

Also where it would normally say " after banns, according to the forms etc" it just says "by declaration in presence of" and then the names of 2 other persons, which I am presuming would have been witnesses under normal circumstances.

Where the registrar would have written an RCE entry it says "the parties not having attended to sign the Register their names here are certified in Column 2 by the registrar".

I have attached the certificate for you to look at and hopefully someone will have an answer as to what it means.

Lanarkshire / Wiston & Roberton burials?
« on: Thursday 27 September 07 14:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Does anyone know of a link or address etc that I can contact for information regarding a burial. I have a death certificate from 1858 which clearly states a burial took place at Robert cemetery, however I have visited this cemetery and have viewed the names contained in the MI booklet and it doesn't appear.

I have a few relatives from up that way, whom I believe were buried in either of these churchyards, but am unable to see any headtones when I visited.

Any help would be appreciated, either by replying to this message or sending me a PM.

The main surnames that I have researching in this are are HAMILTON/GALL/FRIER from Wiston & Roberton, Avondale, Dolphinton & Symington.

Scotland Resources / Link: Unwanted Birth/Death/Marriage Certificates for Scotland
« on: Thursday 27 September 07 14:37 BST (UK)  »
I know that there is a page on rootschat to post unwanted B/D/M certificates, but I use www.sctbdm.com to submit my unwanted certificates. It is maintained by a lady called Sue Lund who has no personal experience of Scottish Family History, but has an ancestral connection to Scotland.

The aim of the site is to post unwanted certs and contact the submitter direct for the information. Over the years I have managed to obtain a few and am now in the process of submitting all my unwanted certs in the hope that I can be of some use to other researchers out there.

Take a look and see if you find it useful - I certainly did.

Dumfriesshire / Westerkirk Burials
« on: Sunday 23 September 07 13:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Wondered if any kind person out there has transcriptions for Westerkirk?
If so, I am trying to trace ancestors whom I believe may be buried there. I am trying to locate John Anderson & his wife Mary Little and poosibly either of their son's, William or James.
John was born c1748 and died after 1776 as both of his son's were born around that time. His wife, Mary would have died after then as well.
Any information would be gratefully recieved.

Wigtownshire / Where are they buried?
« on: Tuesday 19 June 07 09:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
My great great grandfather, William McKie died in the Garrick Hospital, Stranraer on the 10th Nov 1939. His usual residence was at Innermessan, Inch. My great, great grandmother, Elizabeth McKie (ms Campbell) died on the 8th Feb 1930 at Innermessan Cottage, Inch.

I wondered which cemetery they would be buried in, and if any kind person out there has a copy of post 1855 MI's, I would be grateful for any assistance. I'm curious to know if there are any other relatives marked on the headstone.

Thanks in advance
