Dublin / Old photo of house in Cork Street Dublin 8
« on: Wednesday 06 March 24 20:02 GMT (UK)  »
26 Cork Street was a tenement but long gone and now modern building in its place. Grandfather and his 9 siblings were born and raised in the tenement and getting a photo of it has been a struggle for years. Chancing my arm that somebody on this site just might have an aerial photo of the Cork Street area pre 1960 or might know how to source one. One never knows luck

The Common Room / Tracing Uncle who went missing in 1942 or 1943
« on: Monday 30 December 19 23:43 GMT (UK)  »
Mother and twin brother were born in Liverpool in 1916 and reared in Dublin. Uncle went to England in 1942 or 1943 and its believed he survived the war and possibly visited Dublin in late 1940's. Have no idea what happened to him and as he would be 103 now have to assume he is long dead. His birth name was Rupert Darlington and after fostering in 1920 he became John (Jack) Derwin. Have searched all the usual sites over the years and have had no luck so far with Ancestry DNA test. Latest effort to trace him was with Irish and UK Pensions Departments. The Irish Dept say they have no record of after first saying Data Protection laws barred them from supplying 3rd parties. UK Dept  just said Data Protection laws barred them. Unless he changed his name I firmly believe the State has some sort of record of every individual. Okay people disappear never to be seen again but pre disappearance there has to be a record. So, anyone know what steps I can make now to hopefully trace this long lost Uncle ?

About 4 years ago found stack of negatives and bought a scanning gadget that did a great job. Vast majority of the negatives were the usual brown plastic type but a batch of about 30 with a total of 70 individual photos were a paper material. Scanned them with the gadget but end product was very poor, blurred snowy look. Not the most important photos in the world and out of 10 to 12 family members in them most are still alive though a lot older, this of course means I cannot ask Rootschat Restoration folk to help. Have actually scanned the negs on to this computer and would love to post one aa a sample but rules are rules. Any ideas on what I can do to get prints please

My family were very active in Dublin during War of Independence and fairly certain these are 4 brothers and cousins of my father and photos taken about 1920 to 1923. Would be nice to have it cleaned up as I intend cropping the individual lads for an album. Thanking you

Limerick / Walsh family Emmet Place
« on: Sunday 08 October 17 21:36 BST (UK)  »
Through Ancestry DNA Test have recently had the great luck in crashing a 23 year old brick wall. This makes me related closely to a Walsh family that lived in Emmet Place in late 1940's. On Voters list there was 6 in the family, Patrick and Anastasia and I presume their 4 children, Maureen, Helen, Noel (Think its Noel anyway) and Frank/Francis. Would there be 1950's and 1960's Voter Lists available to check if the family continued to live at Emmet Place ? Appreciate any help please
