If of interest....... A quick search reminded me that Anthony James Browne's second wife had a relationship with a Mr Huskisson prior to marrying AJB.  Huskisson was the Deputy Surveyor for the Forest of Bere.

Thanks so much everyone. Thought it worth clarifying as later Anthony James Browne lived near the Forest of Bere and I have vague recollection of a relative of his  being in charge of the King's hunting forests. ;D

Hampshire & IOW Completed Lookup Requests / DROXFORD FOREST Clarification

I have posted previously reqarding Anthony James Brown/e and received great help.  Information received a while back shows that AJB was living at Droxford Forest according to 1851 Census.  Does that mean he was actually living in the forest?  I see others living there too.  Was Droxford Forest another part of Droxford?

Hi,
Just go with the option of cancelling sub before 14 day trial.  Keep a copy, screenshot, or send a copy to yourself for verification if a charge goes through.  Then it can be challenged.

SeanJ, thanks for your research.

Yes, I saw the NoK given as James Buxey on Thomas Buxey's army record and the addresses.  James certainly moved (got shunted) around after his parents died. I'll investigate those other addresses though.

As my grandfather only saw his brother possibly only once after he left home to join the Royal Worcs Rifles as a musician they may not have been up to date with change of addresses.

Thanks again.

I'm a bit late to the party, but have found this to be a fascinating thread.

My grandfather, Maurice William JAMES Buxey was a tailor in Titchfield, Hants.  He apprenticed/taught his wife Olive Grace Buxey nee Taulbut to become a tailor.

According to my late father, he can recall seeing his father sitting cross legged on the family's table drawn up to a bay window.  My grandparents main business was making suits, and it was long hours when there was a funeral.  Apparently my grandmother was noted for her hand sewn buttonholes.  Once Burton ready made suits came into production, my grandfather saw that he had to change his trade and became a builders' hauler/contractor with burgundy and gold signwriting on the door.

I have a beeswax cube which I believe belonged to my grandparents.  This would have been used to  run thread against it to stiffen it for threading.

If anyone knows anything of a Portsmouth tailor who apprenticed boys in the early 1900s, I would love some information.  All I have is that as young orphan boy of 14, my grandfather was sent to work for a Mr Murray in Portsmouth along with other boys who were possibly orphans too.  It was a very tough life and I think the tailor or orphanage was in Pretoria Street.

After Christmas I will take a look to see if there are any trade directories and then see what I can find in the upcoming release of the 1921 Census.

Might those abbreviations be something to do with some naval service record abbreviations:

PVR - Premature Voluntary Release

PO/ -  service number prefix for Portsmouth Division

Y39 - his age?  But 1908discharge - 1874birth = 34

Thanks very much everyone for all your leads.  It's amazing how names/words get distorted over time, but I am pretty sure Ashrafi Juzur sounds about right.  After a lot of mucking about I actually got Gt Uncle Tony's naval records as a stoker then signaller.

Was wondering if anyone new what the entry "Joined P or RyR POB Y39 6.8.08 means?

Its known that Anthony Samuel Taulbut settled in Canada in 1908 under some migration/settlement scheme.  He went on to be an active and innovative member in the early days of Mission City and most of the artefacts in the Mission museum belonged to him.  He migrated with 52 boxes!

Once again thanks for your help everyone.
