I don't really see why it would be any different.  All you need is a swab from "putative" father and baby, and if the markers match - Bingo!

I also have to echo thanks to STG for pointing out Debbie Kennett's UTube presentation.  I was totally confused by DNA and genetic genealogy, but her clear explanation really cleared things up for me.  Now I'm excited to try it!  However, it does seem like a huge outlay for a rather uncertain return.  Anyway, I'm enjoying this week a lot more than the previous ones.

Romilly - Yes, they did say that Family Tree DNA had the most UK-based members so far.

I'm also disappointed that Week 3 wasn't "meatier".  I finished it in just a few hours this evening (after Easter dinner!), although I admit I didn't read all of the See Also's.  Perhaps it's just because I'm already so familiar with the documents that were being shown and explained.  Anyway, I'll go back and re-read everything during the week, including the comments - some of which have been much more helpful than the actual lessons!

So far, it seems to be a beginner's introduction to genealogy, doesn't it?  But I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I will learn some new and useful info eventually.

Thank you both for your replies.  But I still don't quite know how I can tell if someone in the discussion is a "RootsChatter" or not!  (In my profile, I noted I was a member of Rootschat, but I didn't use the same username as I do on RootsChat.)

I just signed up for this course last night, and am really looking forward to it!  It's my first time, so perhaps someone could answer a couple of questions for me:

How did you find the recommended reading list?
Can I follow RootsChatters' discussions even if I'm not on Facebook (and don't plan to be)?

Thanks,
Arkay

I've sent you a PM.

Hi - Although I didn't live at Styal myself, a relative of mine worked at the homes during the time you were there.  I would like to send you a personal message (PM), but you will need to post two more messages, as you need to make 3 posts in order to be able to send and receive PMs. (See the Help Section).  Just a brief word or two will do.
Cheers!

Thanks for your reply, Sinann, but I didn't realize that you were talking about IRISH census records when I first saw this post!  Sorry!

I haven't heard of these records before, so could someone please tell me how to access them?  (I just tried the NA website with no success.)
