Midlothian / Re: Carnie, Brand & Noble - Newhaven and Leith
« on: Sunday 27 August 17 17:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi Wendy,
I remember reading somewhere that Newhavener's may have Flemish ancestry. I wish I could remember where I read it. It is difficult to trace people with certainty if they died before statutory records began in 1855. Andrew is as far back as I have manage to go although I have heard of the name being Dors and Doors.
Regards
Aileen

Hi Carol,
did you find out anything more about this? If not I can ask my daughter who started a project to photograph and transcribe all the gravestones in Perth. She had done some of Greyfriar's but not all.... Not all burials have gravestones...lots of the gravestones are very degraded and cannot be read.

North Leith registration district also includes Newhaven...there were a fair few Patersons from there too.

Thank you for that, that confirms he went to South Africa, gives me his death and his wife's name....three new facts to add.

South Africa / Evan William Fife
« on: Wednesday 13 May 15 20:59 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find information relating to Evan William Fife born 1871 Inverness Scotland who MAY have emigrated to South Africa. I have viewed several passenger lists on Ancestry which have him travelling to South Africa. I have had no luck finding marriage or death records in the UK. On all information I have his occupation is Bank Clerk.
I would be grateful for any help. Thank you

This may be a silly suggestion but have you tried looking for MI's under Bannatyne rather than Peach?.....there are lots of them buried in Douglas

Hi....I have an Elspet Mouggach born Botriphnie c1790 to William and Elspet Moggach ms Riach. She married James Garden, and died in 1877.  Not the one you are searching for but possible you could rule at least one of the 4 out
