My Whitney's are Rachel Whitney bn 1862 Merthyr daughter of John Whitney bn 1843 Carmarthen. John was son of William Whitney bn 1816 Carmarthen,
Whitney was not a very common name for this part of Wales at this time, so I pressume that Williams parents came from elsewhere!!!!

Hi kyt

My father wasat RAF Manby at this time doing national service and was taken on this flight as a passenger. He would like to know the names of the other passengers and crew members (he can't remember them after all this time)
About two hours into the flight they had to turn back as they lost radar.
My fathers name is E L Thomas

The Common Room / Re: Armadale Castle Passenger/Crew List

Thanks t mo and coombs

The John Anthony Williams I am looking for was born in Anglesey, Wales in 1870 so he would have been about 38 in 1908.

He lived in Caerau, Maesteg, Glamorganshire up to this time. I have a postcard sent to his son dated 17th Jan 1908 with a photo of a ship which I make out to be the Yarmagale Castle (postcard is quite worn) so I pressume that it should read Armadale Castle as this is the nearest match. He also states on the postcard that he was about to set sail to Cape Town.
I belive John Anthony Williams worked in the Gold Mine until he moved back to Wales when he and his family bought a farm in Cardiganshire, Wales.(what date he moved back not known)

Some members of the family also seem to think that he may have been a ships Captain and also travelled to India and the Far East but I have my doubts on this.

Thank You
