Thank you for that Henry - I haven't looked at the Tombs for a while but was encouraged to take another look after reading your post.  It isn't the will of John Tombs that I have it is a copy of the administration documents that you mention, a basic mistake on my part!

I would be interested in seeing the documents that you hold though please.

Hi Victor,

Thank you for looking for me.

I really have drawn a blank with these Blizzard/Blissards before Hannah and I thought that by finding this marriage I might be able to see in which direction I should be looking!

Ah well, back to the drawing board  :)

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Burial Look-up please
« on: Saturday 24 September 11 13:56 BST (UK)  »
Could anyone look up a possible burial for me please?

Mary LEESON died 14th January 1931 at 'The Home, Woodmarket, Lutterworth age 73 years.

I am trying to find out whether she was actually buried in Lutterworth, or in Barwell, where her son lived who is mentioned on her death certificate, or in Hinckley where the rest of her family lived.

Any help with this gratefully received.

Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks for that gene-genie - I had seen that site before ages ago but hadn't realised it had Tombs on it or that it was Wm Good's ::)

I don't know how old John Tombs was when he died - it doesn't say on either his will or on the PRs.  I am assuming that he was born c1680-90 because he married in 1716 - but I could be way out there too  :-\

I'll keep an eye open for any connections between my Tombs and yours as I go on - if I ever get any further back with them ....

Hi gene-genie

I have found Tombs spelt in a variety of different ways as you say .... I sometimes get the impression that Gloucestershire is bursting with them - but not the ones I want ::)

You mention Wm Good's site - I haven't come across that, I don't think, how do I access it?

Thanks for that Chas - I hadn't seen those Tombs.  I found two John Tombs in Northleach which could 'fit' too - on the IGI - but I don't know how to go about finding whether any of them are 'my' John Tombs, that's my dilemma  :)

Gloucestershire / John Tombs - dead end!
« on: Monday 08 June 09 08:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

I have a John TOMBS who died in 1755 in Turkdean, Glos. -  I have a
copy of his will.  I have been able to trace his descendents in
Turkdean but I can't get any further back than John - or even find his
birth/baptism.

I have looked at the Turkdean PRs at my local LDS centre but the
earliest TOMB/ES in Turkdean appear to be John and his descendents
which suggests that he wasn't born there. John was married in Turkdean
to Sarah Miller on 12 April 1716 - found on the PRs.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do now?  I have no
idea where he might have been born or where there might be any
siblings for him that would help me.

On searching through the Free Reg for my Carpenter family, have found the baptism of Robert Carpenter.  He was baptised the same day as a brother Martin Carpenter my ggg grandfather..........could these two be twins??

The file numbers are 5489 for Martin and 5560 for Robert........with different file no's could it be that they were just baptised the same day??

Hi Barbara,

I transcribe for FreeReg and we are told to write in the Notes if siblings are down as twins on the PRs.  Also, I have discovered that twins usually share the same Registration number (this is from 1813 of course when the 'new style' registration pages were introduced).

The file numbers at the bottom of the page don't have anything to do with the actual information gleaned from the PRs - the file number is just that, the number of the file that was loaded onto the database.

Hope that helps.

Maggie  :)
