Hi. Just a check to see if you are still checking this post. I think I have relatives who were landholders for this mill in the tithes. Respond and I'll tell you what I have. John Harpur

Hi Rattler. There are many Harpur families in Wexford. I would agree, I don't think we have a match here. Moses had a brother James (mid-1800's) but again his father would have to have been Martin. I don't know if Martin had a brother Joseph.

Moses and his wife Teresa (Stafford) ran a grocery, liquor store, and pub at 55-57 S. Main Street from late 1800's until early 1900's. They also had a iron store on King Street. Moses' children were John, Francis, Patrick, Aiden, James, William, Molly, Elizabeth (Cullimore). Several emigrated to USA or South Africa. Thanks for the assist. John

Hi LH. Terrific info. I don't think I've got relatives named Thomas or Anne for this period. By coincidence though, my last living great aunt, Molly Harpur, and a great uncle, her brother Thomas, last lived at Riverview Terrace in Carcur. But these were very modest townhomes. Thanks.

Ah, but that's the charm of the name and we don't want to lose it. Do you know if you have a Moses Harpur in your family?

Hi. I'm trying to establish a link between Francis Harpur, merchant and land owner from Harpur's Lane and S. Main Street listed in Griffiths Valuation and the Francis Harpur who was three time mayor in the early 1800's. And the descendants of Francis Harpur the merchant, especially if there is a connection to Moses Harpur, grocer, publican, iron monger who's family lived at the intersection of Harpur's Lane and S. Main Street. Thanks.

Nicky, long time fan. Ordered your latest book from Kenny's Galway. I'm from Wexford, PA USA. Some coincidence. We've chatted years ago about Harpur's Lane. In the 1911 census listed under Harpur Street, there are two Rossiters listed with different spellings. You should have a look.

You have been consistent in all of your writings with the proper spelling of Harpur's Lane.  Until the census and griffiths came out online it was difficult proving the spelling. It is now crystal clear. I've been trying to convince the local authorities to change the name marker for Harpur's Lane which has been mispelled Harper.

Also Chronicles of Wexford County written by George Griffith in 1877 lists mayors of Wexford and Francis Harpur (3x time mayor) spelled with a 'u', while the Wexford Corporate site spells it with an 'e'. Very frustrating. The name Harpur is especiallly insycratic to Wexford.

I'm trying to establish a link between the Francis Harpur who  had the property along Harpur's Lane and the mayor and my family, Moses Harpur (Martin his father) of 55-57 S. Main Street.
