Family History Beginners Board / Payne family in Sydney, New South Wales

Does anyone have a connection to James Henry Payne born 1828 in Kent, England and died in Marrickville, Sydney in 1891? He was a brickmaker from Upton cum Chalvey near Slough in Buckinghamshire and he took his second wife, Elizabeth (Harris) and children to Australia in about 1875. He had two younger brothers, also brickmakers from Chalvey, George and Joseph who may have joined him later. Their mother was Susannah Payne nee Kennett and their father was Joseph Howard. The boys may have had Howard/Payne as their surnames. With the help of Familytreedna I think that one of them may be the father of my illegitimate g. grandfather. Any clues very gratefully received! Thanks, Sue

Re WW2 records, I know my father was in India flying people to & fro over the Himalayas and he later met my mother there - I was born in Karachi in 1949. I have no birth certificate!!
The website that you mention is fantastic. My brother sent it to me and this is what prompted me to look into the Canada births question. I shall try to find out where the Kelowna thing came from.

Thanks for your reply. On my father's flying training documents from Cranwell, it says that birth place was Vancouver 'as per birth certificate'. I thought maybe Kelowna might be included in the Vancouver district. I think I shall send for the birth certificate - I have his death certificate - and presume that the other children were the same. I now have to find out where the 'Kelowna' reference came from!

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

Thank you so much for all your info and suggestions. It is just the definite place of birth that I would like to discover. If they were born in Vancouver, I would like to know why Kelowna is mentioned.
I believe I can get my father's birth certificate but not the others, because of their 120 years since birth rule. I have a world subscription to Ancestry but most of their records seem to be Quebeck.

John Peter Massey my father,  was born in September 1910 in Vancouver or Kelowna. Also his brother 1909 and sister, 1912. Their father Hugh Alexander was an Insurance Agent working in Vancouver.
Is there any way I can find their birth information without having to pay 50 dollars for each certificate?I would be so grateful for any suggestions.

Thanks, Sue Humphries, Canterbury England

Hi Rosie,
Yes I investigated that National Archives record and it was because he'd swapped his names round.
As for the Woodstock Giles - thank you Lizdb, I'm sure I have researched this chap and ruled him out, but I shall check again. There seem to be so many Edward Alberts around, I need to find a record with his birth date - 19 December 1872.

Yes Carole, you're right, I was replying in a hurry. The family story was that Sophia's name was Goodchild but I found this wasn't true and that's what I was thinking of when I replied, sorry!
