New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: Ackerman Family in NZ
« on: Sunday 16 November 14 23:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Moxie211,
Your Ackerman is a different family to our Henry & Susan Elizabeth Ackerman. I believe Henry Emil & Susannah resided in Wellington whereas ours lived in the Wairarapa after emigrating from England.
Good luck with your research.
Regards John.

:) Hello Bellbird. Thanks for your pm. As I understand, being new to this site, I cannot send pm's until I have done 3 or more posts.
Yes I am a descendant of Halfyard / Ackerman and Chic Chic is my sister. So, our paternal grandmother was Vera HALFYARD; her parents being Henry and Elizabeth Susan (nee. Ackerman). Elizabeth's parents were Henry Jolliffe and Susan Elizabeth (nee.Taylor) Ackerman.
One of the Ackerman's homes, a small cottage, still exists and has some acreage with it I believe; located on SH2. just north of Carterton in Clareville. A property once occupied by Henry Halfyard and family in Masterton, located at 23 Albert Street, still exists also and is a residential home.
There is a Thompson family tie to Ackerman's here in the Wairarapa, which I haven't looked into the "how" as yet. I just recall my late father mentioning Clive Thompson being a cousin and Clive's sister (her name I can't recall) mentioning to me about them being descended from Ackerman's. This was some time ago, well before I started a nosing into my family history. You have to bear with me, my research is very much in its infancy and a lot of what I have has been gleaned via others and the internet. I have all good intentions of visiting our local archives but there seems to be always other domestic matters requiring attention first.
I can only sympathise with your plight in Christchurch. A few jolts we could get over, but to have the number & magnitude that you have had to endure and still do, is just so hard to imagine and comprehend. I wish you all a speedy recovery from this mayhem.
I may have some info that might help you. I have photos of people, unfortunately unlabelled, but there may be images of Ackerman's amongst them???
All the best, Kind regards, zephyr64

Dorset Lookup Requests / Re: Jane Jolliffe Ackerman

Hello fellow researchers and thank you for all your input in tracing Ackerman's. Very interesting reading and much of it confirming up names and details I have traced already purely with using the "internet"!

My gt grandmother was Elizabeth Susan Halfyard (n.Ackerman), thus my gt gt grandfather Henry Jolliffe Ackerman. The "cake" and celebration in the photo Bellbird has written about, has me wondering if that may have been the occasion of Henry and Susan's 50th wedding anniversary? A house once occupied (owned?) by Henry still stands today at Clareville, Carterton in the Wairarapa, albeit it has been modernised inside and recently on the market. I have an idea Henry may have done farming from there.

There is little else I can add. I have some old photos in albums which I'm sure has Ackerman's in them, but being unlabelled I just don't know.

Regards & thanks again..
