Armed Forces / Military burials
« on: Friday 02 November 18 17:59 GMT (UK)  »
My father received a military burial in 1952 and was buried in St.Seriols churchyard, but there seems to be no record or location of where the grave should be? Surely the officer allocating the funds, soldiers in attendance, firing of rifles, etc. would have a record or a number for this activity;because the 'clerical' staff at St.Seriols haven't got a clue!
I've even contacted the local MP for Holyhead (Ynys Mon)? and he's given up!
All I want to do is erect a permanent head-stone or marker to show that my father  is not forgotten, but it  seems nobody cares or wants to help!

Is there a definitive plan or map of the grave marker's or plot numbers of this cemetery? If so then who has it and can copies be obtained?

Hi Valda,
Thank you for the reply and the attempt to help in this search. My father was buried in Holyhead,Anglesey,North Wales and all searches are coming back with No record's or lost record's etc.
I can't seem to get a definitive statement from any official body-perhaps it's too much trouble.
Anyway, many thanks

Hi Andy,
Thanks for the reply.Yes I do know where my father was buried and I can guess roughly where the grave was, only trouble is I was only 11 and  I returned some 56 yrs later and there was nothing, just 3 unmarked graves(marked by flagstones) in the area of where I thought my father had been buried.
The Reverend said that they had had some floods which destroyed most of their records and that she couldn't help. I've been in contact with the undertakers for that area at the time and she is trying to find out who paid for the plot and whether it was the army,as it was a full military burial, covered by the local press at the time and I've also been in touch with his regiment.
But,I'm getting nowhere.
Surely some record of the plot should exist?
Cheers

'Newburychap' says that in most cases! What does he mean,'most cases'?
I've been trying to find my fathers grave and nobody knows anything; not the council, not the church and not even the registrar or reverend. It seems that after 50 odd years it doesn't matter anymore. I can't erect a headstone or memorial at his resting place because of apathy. I think it's disgusting that an ex-soldier can't be traced!

The chap at the Maritime museum is John Cave on 01407764374.He is a local amateur historian and has made himself a 'plot' of the gravestones. I was talking to him on Friday last ,16th.April because I was trying to find the grave of my father from 1952 and I too have hit a dead-end!
If you have any luck then please post it to the notice board or something and try the site Holyhead.com where Ann runs a very comprehensive and updated website.
Keep in touch
Cheers
