I have been extremely luck to have been given the original marriage certificate of George Marshall and Rebecca Gard. They were married on the 3rd of May 1882 in Duntroon in the Waitaki Valley, Otago, New Zealand. It states on this amazing document that his Mother's name was Isabella Marshall and that her Maiden name was Isabella Marshall. My husband and I visited the Church that they were married in and the local Minister asked why were we had visited. I told him I was researching the Marshall family tree. He asked us to wait and then came back with the Original marriage Cert that he had found in a back cupboard of the church, with several others. we were very lucky to be in the right place as the right time.

Thank you all so much for all this information.

The information that I have for the family ( and I do hope it is the right family ) is the 1861 Scotland census. It stated that William Marshall was born in Livingston Linlithgowshire about 1813.
The family was at Houston Row. Civil Parish Uphall., and that he was a ploughman. This seems to fit with George as I have looked up Papers Past in New Zealand and George was a champion ploughman. My 86 yr old Dad has a beautiful sliver tray that was won by George in a ploughing competition. I would really love to try and find any other family members that may be researching the same lineage as me. Again thanks so much for your help it is invaluable as researching from New Zealand is very expensive, regards Wendy

Thanks for the message Luc, I do not know anything of the Chivers side of the family.
The book that you refered to is Titled

Edited by Keith J Woolley and Glenis A Woolley.

Cheers,

Caroline Chivers married William Woolley, they had 2 children Alfred William Woolley b 17 Jan 1838 and Amelia Woolley b 1839. The family emigrated to Nelson New Zealand, on the 26th of May 1842 on the Barque "Thomas Harrison". Caroline and William then had 4 other children in New Zealand, George William b 1845 in Nelson, Mary Ann Woolley b 1 Jan 1846 in Waimea Port Nelson, Fanny Woolley b 16 Nov 1847 and Frank Woolley b 11 Nov 1849.
Caroline was the daughter of Thomas George Chivers and Jane Tonkins, and William was the son of George Woolley and Nancy Martin. I am the Grt Grt Grt Grt Granddaughter of William and Caroline, and live in New Plymouth New Zealand. A Woolley  150 year reunion was held in 1992 celebrating the Woolley family arriving in New Zealand . a book was published and makes fascintating reading.
