Australia / Australian Womens' Land Army
« on: Friday 14 October 11 06:14 BST (UK)  »

I am wondering if anyone has researched an ancestor who participated as a civilian in the Australian Women's Land Army during WW2.

My mother enrolled in the Queensland division but I only know that she worked picking cotton  at Biloela and picking fruit  on the Granite Belt.  I do not know when she enlisted or left the AWLA.

The National Archives did not have anything relating to my research.

I would really like to learn more about her involvement.

Hoping someone can assist.

William and Sophia supposedly got married - but there is no certificate. References to 'Glenlogie, Lexton' as a marriage place appear on birth certificates of registered children.
Thanks for the suggestion re contacting the Ballarat Family History Society.

There were actually 8 children in the family and William senior's death certificate referred to '2 girls and 6 boys' so the first two children were included in the count.

Sophia's death certificate in 1903 listed all 7 surviving offspring with their names and ages.

Would anyone know if Church of England Parish Records of Baptisms exist/can be accessed online for Victoria in the early 1850s please?
Am wondering if there is any baptismal record for my ancestor, Henry Gadsby, whose birth was registered at Creswick, Victoria in 1857.
More interested in any baptismal record (cannot locate any birth record) for his 2 older siblings - Emma Jane and William Gadsby.

Parents of all the above were William Gadsby and Sophia Gadsby.

Hi there

I am wondering if anyone can shed light on the words "15 lashes" that appear at the bottom of my convict ancestor's 'brick', please?

It is obviously a punishment, but what is the  information source for this statement and where might he have received this punishment?- can anyone assist, please?
Thank you

Australia Lookups completed / Legal Documents pertaining to a death

I am hoping someone may be able to explain what information may be included in documents held by the Q'ld State Archives in relation to an ancestor's death in 1912.

I obtained some information but was advised more is available and the number of pages (in brackets) and the photocoping cost.

Could anyone explain what I might find through ordering these, please?
* Certificate of Stamp Commission (2)
* Affat of Publication and Search (5)
* Copy of Probate (5)
* Inventory (3)
* Release (3)
* Summons to dispence with aps (2)
* Order (2)

I am also perplexed that death certificate is listed and 4 pages beside it.  Could this mean an inquest was held as death certificates are just a single page?

Would appreciate any help, please.
