Thank you very much for the Army Lists tip and the link to the National Archives guide. It looks like the NA have a large amount of helpful information!

Armed Forces / 29th Regiment of Foot-Bartholomew Blake

I wonder if finding a solider who was active from 1729-1762 in the 29th (Worcestershire) Regiment of Foot is too far back in the records to find. I would like to know more about Bartholomew Blake. He married Martha Bowler (whose father or brother was Walter Bowler of Kinsale/Cork, Ireland) but I do not know when that happened. I have found a few military references in books (Ensign 1727, Lieut 1739, Captain 1750, Lieut Col 1762) and the Irish Deeds and Chancery records but not his military record. Any help would be appreciated.

London and Middlesex / Re: Boyd's Marriage St Mary Le Strand

Good question. Groom's occupation (a longshot!) or was the marriage by license? Can I assume that St Mary Le Strand is the church where the marriage took place (I see it is also a parish)? I was hoping to take a look at the handwriting from the actual record even it was from The Bishop's Transcript record, to exam the groom's last name more closely bc I think it is possible James Rolfe (sometimes Rolph) that I was looking for in https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=871503.0. I should have put this in my original thread but forgot. Thanks for asking!

London and Middlesex / Boyd's Marriage St Mary Le Strand
« on: Monday 25 September 23 23:08 BST (UK)  »
I found a marriage record that I am interested in trying to find in the hopes there are a few more details and I can look at the an original entry. It is the marriage of "James Rowth" and "Sarah Right" married in 1647. The FindMyPast transcription (Boyd's Marriage Indexes, 1538-1850) states the marriage was in Westminster, St Mary Le Strand. Am I lucky to just get the transcription? Would there be more information if I went to a library e.g. my local Family History library and located the correct volume of Boyd's in their book collection? I tried to find the record in the St Mary Le Strand records available through Ancestry in their "Westminster, London, England, Church of England Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1558-1812" but it looks like the years 1645-1651 are missing. I could not find a note in the volume that went before and after as to why these years are missing. Any information would be helpful and thanks!

Thank you ciderdrinker for all of this information! I have the same set of children so that helps confirm them for me. Yes, Daniel Ford seemed to be very litigious! Imagine taking your current wife to court! He sued his stepsons as well and included their father's money as well. The reference to Stafford House St Margarets is very interesting! I had found this and it didn't register that Viscount Stafford was on the same document but there he is again in 1678 paying another £52: https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/cc619fd3-cef6-4a0c-8ae0-8f533a3bfcbd.  From what I can see the Dorrington family that Fortune married into came from Stafford and had ties to the family of Viscount Stafford. This must be the same man who was executed in 1680. Not that he is part of Fortune's family but an interesting fact. I just found another reference calling it Tart House, in case anyone is interested. There is a fascinating chapter in a book about female investors from 2014 discussing Fortune's participation in banker's annuities. Maybe this had something to do with it all. In any case, thanks so much for the extra information!

Thanks rosie99. I think this is a different person (maybe a son or some other relative?). When I looked at the will and he names Elizabeth as his wife. There are a few marriages in London in the late 1600s but they are listed as batchelors not widows. I am going to hang on the reference and look further in case there is a connection, so thanks again!

Thanks rosie99! That is the card that I found at the library after my subscription lapsed. Very helpful!

London and Middlesex / Fortune Foord/Ford

I am trying to find the death of Fortune Foord/Ford and her husband Daniel Foord/Ford and maybe a probate record from The National Archives (free or pay). One of them died 27 Nov 1700 (I am assuming it is Daniel or do I have that mixed up?) according to a handwritten record on an index card that I found in a genealogy website.
The record states (in bold):
FOORD als DORRINGTON, Fortune Bow, [Stepney], Mdx.
Her first husband was John Dorrington, mariner, married in 1652, Saint Dionis, Backchurch, London
Ad. to Daniel F., esq., h.
Daniel Foord/Ford is her second husband, married in 1682, St Mary, Marylebone
(Adm. d.b.n. Oct 1704)
27th Nov. 1700
76 219

I think these numbers refer to a probate (maybe an inventory but the main number is missing (e.g. Prob 11).
Does anyone have a suggestions? I did search the archives with various spellings for a probate as well as two genealogy databases without luck for a death or probate record (other than the card found). There are plenty of lawsuits in the archives using their names but no sign of a will for either. Thanks for any suggestions.
A previous discussion I had about Fortune and her father can be found here:

Thanks!

Here is a sample section of the book scrimnet noted including my ancestor. If you are in New Zealand or Australia this is probably a reference book and you can call and have them check the name of your ancestor and send a scan of the page. Most libraries offer this for free. They can also copy the page with all of the abbreviations for the ship names so you can pinpoint the full name of the ship.
