Thank you Groom - will have a go.   Have never spent so much time on my computer in one evening.   Feeling lost here on my own and trying to divert my mind from constantly worrying about my dear OH
Must switch off now and get some work done.

Many thanks for your kind remarks Linda.   Love the cat photo.
Just had a "cremated" jacket potato for my tea!!!   Forgot to put the timer on the oven.

Thank you for your kind reply Groom- very much appreciated.
Hopefully, his recovery will be swift now that he is on a ward.

By the way, I used Deirdre's RC logo on my profile on FL. Thanks D.
Where are all the other RChatters?  and where can I find the recommended reading list please?
Until OH became very ill I was over the moon at completing week one AND getting every question on the quiz correct the first time round!!!!!!!!!!!!    Doesn't take much to please me nowadays.

Well folks, the little grey cells held out to the end of week one.   Haven't had time to join in the discussions (not really my thing).  Interesting bits though.
My dearly beloved OH was rushed to hospital this morning with sepsis.   Hospital done the trick and he is now on a ward hopefully recovering quickly.

Many thanks to Wiggy, Groom and Deirdre784 for your kind comments and support.
I have managed to sign up for the course this morning but didn't know how to identify myself as a Rootschat member.
Any hints on how to do this would be greatly appreciated.

Am seriously thinking of joining the course but don't do Facebook or Twitter or any of the others.
Children think it's a great idea but having reservations as to whether I would be able to cope or not.
I will be 80 in a few weeks time and don't know whether the little grey cells will manage to keep up.
Will I be able to take more than 6 weeks to complete the course if needed?

I would love to be able to draw up charts the way they do but with more generations.   Have done 'mini' charts for individual families but never have time to merge them all into one tree.
I too record it and watch in when I'm on my own and can concentrate!!!!!!!!!!!

Derbyshire / Re: Chesterfield maternity hospital/home

Could not say for sure, but adoptions seemed to be on a regular basis.   The two doctors had very caring reputations as I recall but it's all a long time ago now.   At the time, I did get the impression that the girls were not pressurised into parting with their babies by the Fairfield staff but, again, I could not be sure.
I do believe that it was also a normal nursing/maternity home and ladies went there on a private fee paying basis to have their babies.   A bit up-market you might say and, so I was once told, "a bit posh".

I recall Fairfield Nursing Home when I worked in Chesterfield in the 1950s.   Drs. Duthie and MacFarland ran a private maternity home and there seemed to be a lot of adoptions from there.
Don't know what happened to the building as don't live in the area now.
