Hi again!

I'm still working on the Vickers/Stacey family tree (Sheffield)

Whilst I have the information I previously needed, I wondered if anyone following this thread knows if the Vickers (white metal manufacturer) family is connected in anyway to the Vickers/Naylor family? Same surname, similar professions, same years (or, just a coincidence?)

I have done a little bit of research and can't find a connection or common ancestor.
I have gone back to James Vickers 1737-1809 for the manufacturer (who is the son of James Vickers born about 1710).

For the Vickers/Naylor family, I have gone back to John Vickers b. 1723, the miller, who was the son of Edward Vickers (b. 1688) & Mary Rawson.

Is anyone tracking/tracing either of these families that far back?

Many thanks
Debbie

Dear All,

Would anyone be able to help me with the actual memorial inscription for the following 2 graves at Sheffield General Cemetery?  (If they are still there and legible)

Grave H2 154
Should be James Vickers Stacey, John Vickers Stacey & Ann Stacey (Gill & Moore also there)

Grave H3 154 (I'm hoping this is next to the above)
Should be Caroline Stacey and Ramsdens.

Thank you so much

Kindest Regards
Debbie (Nee Stacey)

Hi Geoffrey,

Just a thought on Hannah Stacey (who married John Hunter). I've had a question mark over this Hannah being the daughter of John Stacey and Hannah Vickers and as you pointed out in a previous message - your Hannah could have been the daughter of any of the other 3.

The reason I don't believe she is the daughter of John Stacey and Hannah nee Vickers is:
All their other children Elizabeth, Esther, Lydia and John Vickers Stacey AND John Stacey (Snr) were
all baptised together on 1st February 1798, even though their births went back to 1782.

I've puzzled as to why Hannah was baptised 6 months before the rest of this family (21 Aug 1797).

I know this doesn't solve her parentage but I guess we can rule out John S and Hannah (nee Vickers) as being her parents.

I'll let you know if I come across anything else.
Take care - Debbie

Hi Geoffrey

What a tangle!

Do I have the following correct:-
Ann Lockwood (B 1828) is the daughter of James and Arabella.
James's brother is William Lockwood (who is listed on the marriage certificate)
William Lockwood marries Hannah Hunter (Bptd July 1831) and this Hannah is the daughter of
John Hunter & Hannah Stacey?

Phew - I think I get it.
Kind Regards - Debbie

Hi Geoffrey

I can't be much help.
Her Fathers name and profession are blank !

They married 13th October 1846 at Brunswick Chapel (Wesleyan), Ecclesall Bierlow.
Ann was a 20 year old spinster.
In Her address field it reads: 58, Duke Street, Sheffield. but now moved to 51 Southbank (or Southworth) Terrace, Nether Hallam.

James V Stacey address details: 1, Clarence Street, Ecclesall Bierlow but now moved to 51 Southbank Terrace, Nether Hallam.

Witnessed by William Lockwood and Martha Capper

I see your problem with trying to locate her parents. It could be a number of them. I have just had a quick look and can't find the same parents to Ann, James or Joseph.

I wonder why (if she was baptised) her fathers names isn't on her marriage cert?

Kind regards Debbie

Hi Geoffrey

I finally replied to you - only a year late!

I am also revisiting my Stacey roots and have been allocating ALL the James Vickers Stacey's and John Vickers Stacey's to the rightful parents - not an easy job but at least I know they are all connected now (brothers and cousins etc). Next job is to get them all on the tree.

I'm just working on the generation of John Vickers Stacey who married Caroline Cowlishaw. I'm just seeing if I can locate any further marriages etc for his siblings so I'm floating around late 1700's and early 1800's.

Do you still need the info from James Vickers Stacey Marriage certificate to Ann Lockwood?

Kind Regards - Debbie

Hi Sandra

Thank you SO MUCH.

This one is such a mystery!

I think that Jane did not marry either of her "husbands" - Emmanuel Cowes or William Harrison but we know for certain that she DID marry John Crawley. I can't locate Jane OR baby William Cowes on the 1891 either (Wm would be about 1/2 yrs of age) and he was born Manchester. I have tried Lancs on line for any combo of William/Emmanuel/Jane and just Jane and William but have drawn a blank.

Ancestry/Find my past and Genes Reunited haven't revealed anything else on Emmanuel other that 1911 record.

I think I may have to resort to purchasing her marriage certificate to John Crawley for her fathers name and that may reveal her maiden name but I'll double check with the cousins that they definitely don't have it 1st.

Thank you once again
A puzzled (and frustrated) Debbie
