Canada / John F Sinclair - 1931 census

I've posted previously (https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=872328.0) with questions on my relative John Findlay Sinclair (b1904). I recently had a breakthrough and discovered that he had travelled from Scotland to Canada in 1929 and is on the 1931 Census living in Manitoba.  I am looking for suggestions as to where to turn next to locate any other records related to him. Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm looking for any ideas as to how I could track down someone after their discharge from the army. After two years, I finally got a copy of my great uncle's army records. He was a gunner in the Royal Artillery and was discharged in September 1934 after 12 years. The only address listed in the records was the family home in South Queensferry. I can't find any record of him in Scotland although there is another John Findley Sinclair listed but it is not him. My relative was born May 31st 1904. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I requested a copy of his service record in January 2021. I understand there is a long back log, so while I wait for a response can anyone suggest where else I could look for information on his service. Any advice would be welcome.

Hi,

Curious about any information you might have in relation to Stanners. My great grandmother - Helen Fraser - was born in Edinburgh in 1886. Her birth certificate lists her as illegitimate and she appears in the 1891 census as the adopted daughter of James and Betsy Stanners (Bridgeness). Have you come across those names?

Thanks,
Kathryn

No there were no siblings. Thanks for the link to the toolkit, I'll have a read.

He was married in 1851 in Kettle in Fife so there is no mention of parents. His death certificate lists his parents as John Maguire and Catherine Green. Catherine Green died in 1882 and is listed as single on her death certificate. I'm not sure if that means his parents weren't married when he was born in Ireland.

Ireland / Birth records 1830s

I've discovered that my great, great grandfather was born in Ireland around 1830s and came to Scotland appearing in the 1851 Scottish census with his mother. I'm looking for suggestions as to how I would go about finding his birth record given that I have no idea where in Ireland he was born. Any advice would be much appreciated.
