Lancashire / Re: WILCOCK and BUCKSHAW HALL
« on: Friday 10 December 10 11:49 GMT (UK)  »
My husband is the grandson of a Wilcock from Buckshaw. He gives the following info:
The following is the census information regarding Higher and Lower Buckshaw farms
1841   Richard Dickinson at Higher Buckshaw – Samuel Mason at Lower Buckshaw
1851   Richard Dickinson at Higher Buckshaw – Samuel Mason at Lower Buckshaw
1861   James Wilcock aged 59 and Michael Wilcock aged 26 at Higher Buckshaw – Margaret Mason at Lower Buckshaw
1871   James Wilcock aged 69 at Higher Buckshaw – Michael Wilcock aged 36 at Lower Buckshaw
1881   Michael Wilcock aged 46 at Higher Buckshaw – Lower Buckshaw unoccupied
1891   Michael Wilcock aged 56 at Higher Buckshaw – William Shaw at Lower Buckshaw
1901   Michael Wilcock aged 66 at Higher Buckshaw – William Iddon at Lower Buckshaw
1911   Michael Wilcock aged 76 at “Village Euxton”
James Wilcock, who was born in 1801, was the son of Michael and Alice Wilcock née Snape. He was born at Withnell and baptised at St Chad’s RC church, South Hill on 4th July 1801. Michael Wilcock was his son born in 1834. All the Wilcocks were Catholics and those who lived at the Buckshaw farms were buried in St Mary’s churchyard, Euxton.
I haven’t been able to trace the Wilcocks back beyond James’ father Michael who was born at Wheelton about 1781 and buried at South Hill in 1863 having lived in Euxton certainly from the time of the 1841 census.
I don’t know whether any other Wilcocks lived/farmed at Buckshaw in the time between Edward Robinson’s death and 1841.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Resources & Offers / Christ Church school registers Harrogate
« on: Sunday 19 September 10 21:32 BST (UK)  »
I 'm transcribing Christ Church School registers, Harrogate, register from 1888 to 1915, to a spreadsheet. I'm happy to look up any surnames to provide addresses, parent's name and dates of attendance.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: New Park Infants School Harrogate

Sheer luck I saw your request. There were no messages shown for me. As suggested I put the offer on West Yorkshire because Harrogate was in West Riding at the time of the registers.
I can't find your parents. The registers run as far as 1939. You don't give a date.
You might be interested that the only Cooper and Cundell are:
Gertrude Cooper, born 04 06 01, 13 Park St, father Tom, came from Follifoot
Robert J Cundell, born 12 03 06, , Euclid Ave, father Robert
Sorry I can't be of more help.

The Common Room / Re: A word of warning!!

I too have had this sort of thing happen and am now very wary. However it is worth considering that when a tree has thousands of names on it, it is very difficult to navigate so the likelihood of anyone making sense of the data is fairly small.

Yorkshire (North Riding) / Re: Missing Helmsley marriage on BMD not on Yorks BMD
« on: Friday 20 March 09 21:19 GMT (UK)  »
Scruffypup, I asked my better half, the fount of all knowledge! He said that if a father is listed as deceased on a marriage cert, then he was deceased. If it doesn't say, then he might be and he might not be. He also says that you would be lucky to get a full address at that date. Maybe into the 20th century you would. He doesn't know of any rule when it suddenly became the norm. He says to remember that the cert is only as accurate as the the couple care to divulge and lies were frequent.
Plough on, jana

Hello again scruffypup. Glad you found the marriage. We have not so far transcribed anything other than Anglican marriages for yorksbmd so that's why it wasn't there!
Did it give you the info you wanted?

Scruffypup, we're the coordinators for putting marriages on yorksbmd for Ryedale. Your marriage is not in the Helmsley parish church. Might it be in a neighbouring parish but still Helmsley area? We're still doing Ryedale by alphabet and have reached 'R' so maybe it's not done yet.
It's no good going to Harrogate with a GRO ref. They have their own referencing system.
Cheers Jana
