Essex Completed Lookup Requests / 1911 has not helped!!
« on: Sunday 18 January 09 17:58 GMT (UK)  »
Ellen Read married Leonard Thomas Steele on 7.2.1910 in Tottenham, Mddx. She gave her age as 23, and the father column was - horror of horrors - blank!

Witness was Edith Read

I've waited patiently for the 1911, where she gave her place of birth as Harlow, Essex, which is Epping District, according to Free BMD, which has the Following:
Births Dec 1886
Read     Ellen          Epping     4a    306
Births Sep 1888
READ     Ellen Louise           W Ham     4a    138
Births Dec 1888
READ     Ellen           Epping     4a    308

Question is,, how do I know which is her, without a father's name?

There is no Ellen Read who gives her place of birth as Harlow in the 1901.

Any suggestions please to help me pin Ellen Down?

Thanks so much Linda

To distract myself from what's happening, I have been working hard transcribing newspapers, and adding photos etc to the Virtual Tour of Hampstead.

Hope you find something!

Happy Hunting.

Linda

PS - It covers more than just Hampstead!

Sussex Lookup Requests / Stowell - can't find them anywhere!!
« on: Sunday 21 December 08 14:14 GMT (UK)  »
Charles Stowell married Charlotte Rose Lindley 1922 in Wandsworth Reg. He was the youngest of five and worked on the railways after WWI. The oldest was Reuben Stowell, who married Rose L Randall 1921  in Steyning Reg. Their mother died when they were young, and thee of them went to a home, possible Barnados. Charles was supposed to have been born in Sussex, possibly Brighton, Hove, Worthing area?

Can't find any trace of Reuben in the 1901, although as the oldest I would have thought I could find him.

I've looked and looked, but can't find them. Is there some census missing on Ancestry, or are they hiding under some mistranscription.

Any help appreciated, please. I'm tearing my hair out.

.....and would be willing to photograph a grave stone for me, please?

I took a photo of it several years ago, but  can't read it properly,  and now I find myself with my Lovetts in a twist.

Thanks, Linda
