The Common Room / Re: PWC in 1939 register

I know and understand how things are added to the 1949 register up until the 1970s, it can be useful in tracing a recent marriage1.  as far as PWC and PWE are concerned these are all written at the time of the register with the same handwriting and same ink. most of the additions are done in a different ink.

The Common Room / PWC in 1939 register

i notice a discussion a few years ago when no one seemed to know what the qualification PWC stood for after an entry. most similar entries related to their war time role such as ARP, billeting officer, first aid, stretcher bearer etc. the general view with doubt that it stood for post war credits. I think it unlikely to be correct as the entries were made at the beginning of the war. In Lincolnshire the abbreviation PWE is used.  I believe this stands for Political Warfare Executive, a clandestine organisation at first led by Anthony Eden from Woburn abbey,  Its worth looking this up..... its fascinating.  I am wondering if in fact PWC is a corruption of PWE. I would value others reviewing this to see what you think

Thanks Rae and H

Rain water keeps getting at our broadband link and it was out of action for a while hence the delay replying... I am sorry.

These detailed overseers accounts make fascinating reading and I am so greatful to you for sharing them.

best regards

Thanks Rae,

Sorry not to have replied sooner but my broadband line was down for 24 hrs-- rain in the cables!!

Yes I have now found most of this from the censuses,  interesting the different spellings of Zipporah. I wonder if there will be any interesting material about his police career , whether his tailor business featured in any trade directories and whether any else could be found locally. Unfortunately I am at the opposite end of the country

you were most kind to look things up for me

Goodness you are quick with replies, whilst I was checking my facts you had replied.

I had not definitely found a death for Jacob either so thank you H

Kezia one of his 12 children first married William Parfitt 20 6 1848 at Holy Trinity Paulton. They had a daughter Sarah Ann Parfitt

William sadly died befor the 1851 census as Keziah is back at home with her father  Jacob, both of them are widowed Also present are several of  Jacobs other children Also present was Matilda Carter aged under 1 month described as a vistor I am not sure who her parents are? ( HO107 P1939 F150 P18)

by 1861 Kezia has married Mark Hall and they have several children Now Jacob is living with Kezia and Mark  (RG9 P1679 F177 P34)

The reason I suggested that Anne Hook married Thomas Broadrib between the baptisms of her grandchildren Kezia and John ie between 1826-1830 is because the maternal grandparents are recorded on the baptismal records as well as parents Martha and Jacob

Hope that clarifies it as i see it now
Best regards to you both
