Hello Jebber,

Thank you very much for trying to find some information at the Wardrobe, it was very kind of you; I know how much time it takes to do research. I am not sure if Denis knows his Father's Batallion; I will ask him when I write to him.

Thank you again Ady, you did very well. If we ever come up with a reason why Denis's Father won the MM, I will let you know.

Hello mmm45 and ainslie,

Thank you both for your replies. With your reply Ady I found the page immediately and copied for Denis. I will tell Denis how you have helped. I will also have a look at the British Medal Forum.

Hello Ainsley,
Thank you VERY much for the information. I have been looking for the Issue and page number you mention, but so far have only found a page with the surnames beginning with W, and even that I can't seem to find again. I will keep trying. Thank you again.

Hello Jebber,

Thank you again for your reply and information. It's a shame we cannot find a Service or Pension Record for Maurice, as there might be a chance of either, showing why Maurice won the Military Medal. I was only able to check the Ancestry Index, and a friend also checked, but nothing was found. I know a lot of records did not survive, but do wonder if it would be worth my counsin contacting the NA and paying for a search. Perhaps the next step would be for him to contact The Wardrobe again.

Thank you again for your help.

Hello ainslie and Jebber,

Thank you both very much for replying to my Post.

I did look on the London Gazette website but found nothing, although I could well have missed something. I also looked on The Wardrobe website as my cousin had sent them his Father’s Medals. Denis had also asked if there was a chance of finding out why his Father won the Medal but they never got back to him. Possibly because Denis didn’t realise at the time there was a fee involved. I did find what I believe to be Denis’s Father’s Medals…The Military Medal, 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal. The Military Medal (5598) is showing as awarded to Corporal M Bright. Denis did say he thought his Father was a Company Sergeant Major. On the Wardrobe site Maurice is showing as…Colour Sergeant M Bright.

If you think you could help in any way, it would be very much appreciated.

Maurice Bright – Service No. 17677 – Wiltshire Regiment.
Birth : 31st March 1892 (Possibly Stansted area)

Thank you,
Dragonfly

Hi Rootschat,

My Cousin's Father, a Company Sergeant in the Wiltshire Regiment, won the Military Medal in the 1st World War. My Cousin would like to find out why his Father won this Medal. Can anyone tell me if this is possible, and if so, who we can contact please? No Service, or Pension record has been found on line.

Thank you,

Hi Judith and Robyn,

Thank you both for your message. I didn't find your message until late last night - in my spam box. Messages from Forums always seem to go into my spam box for some reason.

I ordered Thomas's brother Philip's death certificate from NSW about a week ago so it should reach me within the next couple of weeks. All I have at the moment is that he died in Young, NSW in 1969. I would imagine Judith, I would need the exact date of death for you to look up any newspapers. I really thank you for that. I did look up a newspaper some years ago for another ancestor, and found an article referring to the accident etc. Perhaps for Philip there is an obituary, and like you say, a possibility it could mention Thomas, even though slim. I am really hoping that getting Philip's death cert will give me his Wife's name so that I can try to find his marriage, and if so, possibly, Thomas as a Witness. Again, very slim I know.

Hi Robyn,
I have to go back into the New Zealand site you sent me as so far this morning I have been unable to bring up the death of the Thomas in 1952. I couldn't seem to get the dd/mm/yy put in as they required. I must be doing something wrong. I will try again.

Thank you both again,
Regards,
Audrey

Australia / Thomas Charles HALL-Missing
« on: Tuesday 26 January 10 08:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

I am looking for a Thomas Charles Hall born 1877 Islington, London, England. Father: Philip James Hall, Mother: Hannah Jane nee Banting. Thomas had siblings: Esther Jane, Philip James, Hannah Eliza, Catherine (died age 2) and William Edward.

I have only been able to find Thomas on the 1881 and 1891 Census in Islington. Thomas at age 14 was an apprentice hairdresser. After 1891 I can find no trace of him. I have been through many records with no luck. His brother Philip died in New South Wales in 1969. I have looked at death records for Thomas in New South Wales but have been unable to find him there.

If anyone can help me find Thomas it would be very much appreciated.

Best wishes
