Hi

I am looking for information on the family of Sergeant (Navigator) 1621971 Arthur Barker, RAF.

He was the son of George and Elsie Barker of Huddesfield, Yorkshire.  Mother's maiden name possibly Gillon.  He was killed on 9th December 1944, on board Wellington Bomber BJ782 from 21 OTU RAF Moreton-in-Marsh which crashed at Adderbury, Oxfordshire, following an engine failure. He was 21.

We live in Adderbury and my son is researching the crash for a school project.  We also hope to ask the parish council to install a memorial plaque at the crash site and perhaps to hold a memorial service to remember the crew.

Ideally, we are ultimately hoping to get in touch with living relatives, but any information about the family which helps us to do this would be helpful.

Hi

I am looking for John Sproston/Spraston, born Middlewich, Cheshire around 1865 (may be listed as Newton, Cheshire).

He should have wife Elizabeth, born 1865, Ashton under Lyne
Possibly one son, Ernest, born Bury 1891.

I am pretty sure he will be in Bury as he was there in 1881 with his widowed mother, Emily Sproston (nee Sims) (born 1846) and his sister, Sarah J (born 1871).

I would also love the 1891 entry for his mother, Emily, but this is not as important.

Many thanks,

Sue

Renfrewshire / Flight Sergeant William McMILLAN of Greenock
« on: Saturday 19 May 12 08:57 BST (UK)  »
I am searching for information about Flight Sergeant William McMILLAN, 967661, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, who was killed in a crash near Bodicote, Oxfordshire on 28th December 1942.

The local parish council have commissioned a memorial plaque to mark the site of the crash, and are searching for relatives of the 6 deceased air crew to attend a service in June 2012.

William McMillan was 26 when he died, the son of William and Agnes Napier McMillan of Greenock, and husband of Annie Norris McMillan of Greenock.  He is buried in Grave 242. Sec1.1.1. of Greenock Cemetery.  It would be very helpful to know whether he has children/grandchildren, or siblings/neices/nephews who survived him.

We have been successful so far in contacting relatives of 4 of the 6 air crew, and it would be fantastic if they were all represented at the service.

Wellington BK517 was on a routine air test on the morning of December 28th when it crashed into a valley just beyond the village of Bodicote, near Banbury.  All six crew were killed:

Flying Officer John Gordon Byrne 112527, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, aged 22.
Flight Sergeant William McMillan, 967661, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve aged 26
Flight Sergeant Jack Thompson McDonald (R/90083, Royal Canadian Air Force) aged 26
Leading Aircraftman Leslie Hamilton Nicholson, 1066387, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve aged 20
Aircraftman 2nd Class John Ernest George Beaumont, 1710222, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve aged 19
Aircraftman 2nd Class Granville Broadhurst, 1579235, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve aged 19

Further information about the crash is available here http://www.sjbradley.com/memorial/aircrash.htm

« on: Thursday 23 February 12 20:51 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for my grandfather Frank Sproston (born 1896) in the 1911 census for Stoke upon Trent.  He would be living with his mother Elizabeth (b 1871) and stepfather Samuel Knapper (b 1873), probably with sister Agnes Sproston (b 1895).  My grandfather was born in Talk'o'th'Hill (Butt Lane).

Thanks
