I wonder about this birth in 1834….?
Thomas Puplett, baptised 9 Apr 1834, Christchurch St Saviour, s/o Sophia Puplett & James Hurcombe, Carman, Bear Lane… after 1st husband George Puplett dies and before 2nd marriage to Robert Hutchins…..? A dearth of other Sophia Pupletts as possible mother  ::)

Edited: James Hurcombe not Thomas.

Another article in The Liverpool Mercury, 31 Aug 1840, recounts that John (Mulstray) had been previously charged in 1836 with stealing plate from his (then) master and Andrew Browne “received him with an unexceptional character from the chaplain of the gaol”.

This appears to be the gentleman he stole the funds from…

1841 South Hill PB, Toxteth Park
Andrew Browne, 50, merchant, b. Ireland
Thomas Browne, 30, ditto, Lancs
William Browne, 20, ditto, Lancs
Alexander Browne, 20, ditto, Lancs
Henry Browne, 20, ditto, Lancs
Louisa Browne, 20, - , Lancs
Jane Middleton, 20, - ,
Isabella Bowes, 20, - ,Scotland

No sign of John in the household as he would be in gaol at that time.

A very extensive article with lots of details in The Liverpool Mail, 26 May 1840
