UPDATE

 :D Thanks to all contributors.

Aussie1947 suggested I contact Gold Coast Council for info on grave Head stone, and they came up trumps. Very helpful lady there.
She supplied a photo showing Franks AIF service number confirming it is him, (I have his signing on record) and quoting Isabell as his wife and confirming there are children, plus his date of passing. So all round a good result.

All I need to do now is find the children, more of a task I think!

Thanks again, Gerry

Thanks to everyone for some excellent information.

Gerry
Re the info on QLD Electoral Roll for Frank and Isabel.

It seems likely that Frank married Isabel, 1920/c3433, but I guess the only way to be sure is to get a copy of the marriage cert. would that be the only way ?

Are there any other records to show him being from Wendover England?

Re the Newspaper article, 1929. Are Samsonvale and Dayboro, in the same area as the electoral roll locations. What type of farming would have been carried out there?

Cheers
Steve

Thanks to all for your replies. To answer your questions:

On FreeBMD there are 32 Ellen Browns born Middx between Jan 1881 and Dec1883,
None in Willesden, Kilburn or Hendon.

Her birthday was 22nd Dec 1882 and died on 5th Dec 1979.

Not found on 1901 census.

Address on Marr cert was 8 Streatley Road, Brondesbury, witness’s where her husband’s brother Edward Woodgate, friend Beatrice Parker (guess brides maid), and friend, George Larcher, also the head of 8 Streatley household. (guess the man who gave her away), father James Brown (deceased).

Streatley Road exists on 1891 but not number 8. The 4 roads surrounding it (Callcott Rd, Plymton Rd, Buckley Rd, and Dunster Gdns) all appear on 1901 census.

LMA looks daunting!

Hope this helps

Thanks
Steve

Leanne
Thanks so much for your help, I've now got something positive to look at.
I've also got a marriage for a Frank Woodgate to Isabel Burgess.
Having trouble searching child births, why do they have to be before 1915? Where do I search for after this period?

Thanks again
Steve

Hi Leanne
Yes James was one of his his brothers, my grand father in fact, they lived in a small village called Dunsmore, Nr Wendover. There were 11 other siblings!

Parents would be John Woodgate (or sometimes written Woodgett) and Sarah Brackley.

Hope this helps

London and Middlesex / Ellen BROWN. Mount Hermon Orphanage,Willesden

Trying to get more details on my grand mother Ellen Brown.

I have her at Mount Hermon Girls Orphanage, Cambridge Ave, aged 9 in 1891, "In training for Domestic Service" born Hendon.

Can anyone help with the following:-
A GRO ref for her birth?
Who placed her in the orphanage and at what age?
Where was she before then?
Who was she placed with as a Domestic? It is said that she went to Scotland and France with a family.
I find her next on her wedding cert. in 1910 living at 8 Streatley Rd, Brondesbury.
Her father James Brown, Builder, is deceased.
Then in the 1911 census married to my Grand father James Woodgate in Dunsmore, Bucks (her place of birth then given as Willesden)

Any help however small would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Thanks very much for your post.
On the wedding cert there are 2 other witness's, George Larcher and Grandad's brother Edward Woodgate  (who I know about). but the clincher is George Larcher, I guess he could have been a son of Lucy, and it's interesting that when my mum married in 1933 she was with Grandma and grandad at 8 Streatley Rd.
My mum always said that Grandma was in service when she was young and may also have been a dress maker at some point as that's what my mum was.
As for B the only other info I had was that she was a woman of the church and born abt 1860, (not sure i'll check that sending this from work, stuff at home)  I have a photo of her with a 3 year old Grandma.
Well thanks again I'll have another study of your info and see what i can make of it.
Hope to hear from you again
