If born circa 1776/7...
Foulden is next door to Northwold, so a possibility might be the John baptized there 13 July 1777 to William and Elizabeth Reeve?
(possibly they are the William Reve and Elizabeth Sharwood who married 15 Jan 1771, same place?)
PR here with that baptism

Thanks jonw65.  Try as I might, I cannot find the index to this marriage, nor the child John of Foulden, in spite of the parish record you attached.

Someone else asked why did I pick the John Reeve of Little Fransham that was born/baptised on 6th October 1782, in spite of him being 3 years younger than Mary Towler.  The reason is that all the others died, and the one suggested from Foulden of 1771 (above) cannot be found by myself.
Process of elimination was followed.
I think I probably need to close this post as we are now onto another John Reeve and his forebears.
I thank everyone for their help.  I'll take advice and use Family Search and Free Reg.  Bewteen them I should be able to get some idea of what is going on.
Regards to all
Grahame

Thank you Trish and amondg.
Yes, I've done the research myself and not from others family trees.
If my John Reeve is not the one born in West Dereham due to an infant death, then I'm left with the most likely being John Reeve baptised 19 April 1778 at Little Fransham, about 6 miles west of East Dereham.  The IGI records are quite positive about Mary Towler having many children to John Reeve.
Now ..
That means that his father is not Thomas Reeve of Foxley or anywhere else, and is actually William Reeve who married an Elizabeth, the most likely being Elizabeth Capes of Little Fransham in 1769.

Can anyone confirm that this is the most likely from information that may not be available to an Australian researcher.  Thanking you

JOHN was buried 11 Jan 1848 age 71 (1777)

First son to John and Mary at Northwold is William in 1804
Wm son of John Reeves + Mary his wife late Mary Towler was born Feb 17 and Rec'd into Church March 18 1804

I'm confused with Mary Towler dying 1803/1804.  The IGI records show a swathe of children born to Mary Towler and John Reeve after 1804.

Thank you for the information.  I didn't know of the deaths of the children which is very helpful.

The Thomas I am looking for is John Reeve's (Snr who married Mary Towler) father; he was  Thomas (or Tomas) Reeve and married an Elizabeth (Smith 1763 or Hunter 1760).
I can't work out with any degree of certainty which one it was.
Then there is the problem of which Thomas he is, as there seems to be four to choose from, born in the region between 1731 to 1738.
If my ancestor married Elizabeth Smith, then it is Thomas of Foxley who was born in 1736, but how can I know?

Thank you for your help so far.  Very kind.

Thanks for the quick reply.  I assume the M/C means marriage certificate.  Regarding the marriage cert., there is no occupation as it is a parish record only.  I'm afraid I don't have death certificates for either or all.

Norfolk / John Reeve of West Dereham Norfolk b. 26 Aug 1781

I understand that this John Reeve is the father of David Reeve, born circa 1816/1817 with his mother as Mary Towler.  Married 12 Oct 1801.
I'm looking for Johns father who could be Thomas Reeve of Foxley who married Elizabeth Smith at Litcham of 17 Dec 1763, or another John Reeve who married Elizabeth Hunter in Norwich on 8th Dec 1760.
I can't seem to be able to be sure of either.

The family seem to have lived around Whittington and Northwold for generations after David Reeve.

Too, when was Thomas Reeve born ?  If it was Thomas of Foxley, then it was sometime in 1736.  Alternatives are a Thomas of Norwich St Gregory b. 1732, Thomas of Hackford near Reepham b. 1738 or Thomas of Roydon, near Diss b. 1731.
Any help would be much appreciated.  (My email address is working now).

Argyllshire / Re: Daniel Bell supposedly born 1821 Kilmichael, Glassary

Thanks, Monica
Yes, all's well (now) after coronary by-pass surgery in April and a further health scare last month (which was a false alarm).  I'm off to Scotland next year in May on the holiday that has been rescheduled from May this year.  I'll be driving around the old Bell stamping grounds of Kilmichael, Kilmartin and through Argyll for a couple of weeks.  The family history book has come back from the printer, and I'm now binding a limited number of copies.  It will bear an ISBN and have the usual legal deposit, but I can see this being a very limited edition as many of the relatives have no interest whatsoever.  C'est le vie.
I was hoping to find out a little more on the Bells of Argyll, and the Smiths of Fordoun, but if I do, it will for another edition or supplement.
Hope you've been well.
