Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Whats the name?

I bought this CDV the other day as I'm researching photographers in the area but I also noticed that this one appears to have the name of the sitter on the back of it.

I'm really struggling to read any part of it and wondered if anyone here could.

Thank you both, I feared that might be the case as struggling to find enough records over the time period to build a detailed enough picture.

Clearly this is going to take some time!  ;D

The Common Room / How To Track House Number Changes?
« on: Wednesday 26 October 22 16:55 BST (UK)  »
I'm researching the street I grew up on and it's history is quite long and extensive. Since it's origins of a dirt track through a forest to the present day the street has gone through 3 name changes. During the same time period, the houses on the street have been renumbered 3 times, two of which have occurred since the street was given its current name in 1867.

I'm trying to research specific houses and businesses and whilst some of the houses also have names that have lasted to the present day, which makes tracking them much easier, businesses often just give a number. Very occasionally I can work out what the number of a house would have been in say 1870 and therefore work out what the number of a business was 4 doors away but it's a very long road!

I'm presuming that the local council must have some kind of record of when the buildings were renumbered but would they keep a record of what every building number was and what it then became and what would such a document be called?

It's also not helped that the road falls across the boundary of two councils with one side of the road being one council and the other side being another!

Thank you all for your suggestions and research, it is very much appreciated. There's certainly some leads to follow up on. I imagine that the name was written on the card by one of W. J. Wrights assistants and not a family member (a family member is less likely to use Miss), but what I'm not sure of is whether this photo was owned by the sitter or whether it was kept by W.J. Wright as a reference for it further prints were required. If it was owned by the sitter than I would think it's more likely that the name would have been corrected if misspelt. Definitely further research is needed as I'm very intrigued to find out more about this person.

London and Middlesex / Re: W J Wright - Photographer

Wow that is amazing. Thank you both so much, that is exactly the information I was trying to find. It's especially useful having the full address of the studios as well.

Turns out his photographic studio was just down the road from one house I lived in and his house was around the corner from another house I lived in!

I was saying that the surname Dabil has Indian origin but the person in the photo isn't Indian, hence I don't think Dabil is the correct name.

I have no idea who the person in the photo is. I actually bought the photo because I'm researching the history of Upper Norwood and was interested in the photographer. However, I am also researching families I come across in my research and hence was trying to find out who the person in the photo was.

All the info I have therefore is on the photo itself.

Thank you for the extra info.

Have you looked for someone in the area on previous & later census' with variants of the surname?

Annie

Yeah but I'm drawing a blank on every possible variation of the name. I suppose it's entirely possible that this person isn't British and was simply visiting the Crystal Palace after it moved from Hyde Park and decided to get their photograph taken. The bottom end of Church Road literally took you to the Crystal Palace building.

Church Road, Upper Norwood is in South London and is split across the 4 boroughs of Croydon, Lambeth, Bromley and Southwark. It is perhaps better known as Crystal Palace (although officially Crystal Palace is just a part of Upper Norwood and locals wouldn't refer to it as Crystal Palace)
