Yes I have both of those.  I'm intrigued now -- do you collect examples of Charles Gilbert?  Can you boast a Gilbert in your ancestry?

Ignoring occasional visitors from outside it is clear that Coventry 1800-1900 played host to five distinct Gilbert families, with interests ranging from manufacture to farming.  My family were initially in the basket and osier trade, before moving into bicycles and motor cars.

Hi Liverpool Annie

What a very nice gesture!  I did have the marriage details for Ann Gilbert and William Ratcliffe, I think from an extended thrash in the Birmingham Library.  Always nice to confirm details -- these old eyes have been known to make mistakes ...  Any more such records will be extremely welcomed.

Three of the burials were new to me -- many thanks.  I didn't understand the ages of Charles (1804) and Charles (1805).  Did this mean each was buried by his father?

Let me take this opportunity to thank you also for the connection with Pelican.  I believe this relationship will benefit both of us; I'm already bragging about my bird....

I only wish I could give more information.  I began my research by following the GILBERT line from Coventry back through Wolvey, Brinklow and Hillmorton to Boddington.  Like most Ag Lab members in those days large families were the norm.

In order to locate missing members I then embarked on research of all Warwickshire GILBERT records.  [Yes, sad, sad...].  In this way I discovered pockets of family GILBERT descendants in Water Orton and Atherstone.   I was left with a huge jigsaw of GILBERT trees, which I'm attempting to combine.  On my own GILBERT tree there remain many male ancestors yet to be rediscovered after their baptisms; no known marriages or deaths.

One possibility was migration.  Canada or States.  Usually the suspects were close brothers e.g. Charles b1824, John b1826, both Brinklow.  My current approach centres on the Armed Forces, but eventually I will look at sailings to the once-new world.

In the meantime I merely floated a fly to any US descendants of Warwickshire GILBERT families -- as much to help them as myself ...
