That's really useful, I have a public tree on another well known site, Revised Waugh Family Tree 201 and it is up to date with what I have found regarding Peter Nichols.  I do know that his mother was the step daughter of Joseph Jones, so that would fit.  I also know that Peter had at least 2 siblings, but they remain elusive

Thanks for all of your useful suggestions.  There is no information within the family regarding Walter White Nichol/ls other than he gives his name in full on his children's birth certs.  His address at marriage is given as The Barracks.
There is a discrepancy in his given age according to marriage cert he was 19 in 1915, however according to the BMD he was 46 when he died in 1937.  His widow went on to marry his 'cousin' Cyril Robert White who was born in Sheffield in 1904.

Hoping someone can help me find the personal details of Walter White Nichol/ls, he was a private in the Notts and Derbys Regiment, Enlisted 11/8/15 and discharged 6/3/18.  His army number was 20987 and he was my husbands grandfather.
I cannot find him in any census, although I know from his marriage cert that his father was called Peter and that he (Peter) was a coal miner.  Peter appears to have been married, but in Mansfield workhouse in 1911 and then in the September of that year was in Wakefield prison serving 7 days for 'lodging out'.
Very grateful for any help with this
