The Lighter Side / Re: Who remembers Empire Day?
« on: Monday 29 May 17 13:43 BST (UK)  »
Here is the photo. Taken in Ruddington, Notinghamshire. My Great Uncle Sid Thompson is seated at the far left on the front row. Sid was born in Jan 1913 and was killed in 1944 serving with the RAF. Looking the dress and theme I guess this was taken circa 1918?

Cheers, Ade,

Sad we don't celebrate things like this anymore.

I have a lovely photo of my Great Uncle and his classmates all dressed up for the occasion in fancy dress.

Cheers, Ade.

World War One / Re: Can anyone identify this WW1 uniform?
« on: Saturday 27 May 17 16:48 BST (UK)  »
You are correct on the date, it is WW1 British Army uniform. Rank of Private.

From the photo it is impossible to tell what Regiment or Corps he belongs to. You will see a brass shoulder title on his shoulder strap. If you are lucky you might be able to check this with a magnifying glass on the original print. It will be some letters or a letter / number combination. Post back with you findings.

Cheers, Ade.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: DNA Testing - Why Not
« on: Saturday 29 April 17 19:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi Liviani, your basic understanding is correct.

To find out your Dad's Y DNA line, he would need to take a test.

If you tested your Son once is is old enough, this would show his Father's Y DNA line.

Being Female you have two options.

1) Do an MT DNA test. This would show your Mum's line.

2) Do an Autosomal test: this would give you genetic make up inherited from your parents and Grandparents going back about 500 years.

Hope this helps?

Cheers, Ade.
