The Lighter Side / Re: Items for a museum
« on: Tuesday 08 August 23 18:16 BST (UK)  »
I work in a museum. We have dressed buildings, but nothing that needs 1960s stuff I'm afraid. Like Ray T says, we and other museums I know do have far more stuff than we know what to do with; there is always far more in storage than on display.
That said, there is a Museum Freecycle group where museums offer and request stuff they need, so you could perhaps post on there.
If you are near the Black County Museum, you could try Avoncroft in Bromsgrove?

Buckinghamshire / Re: Emma Bowler Chalfont St. Peter marriage 1882

I did a bunch of research on the families of Seer Green a few years back for the local history society.

I do have Emma on that family tree, although not her marriage yet probably because she went rogue and moved to Chalfont St Peter! But I do have some ancestry for her taken from local parish records if it is of interest.

No photos of the man himself I'm afraid, but the memorial stone to the crew in St Cattwgs churchyard if it helps.

Dorset / Re: OLD families of Dorset
« on: Sunday 11 September 22 16:54 BST (UK)  »
I have two marriages which I think are both for John, 1st to Grace Brinson in 1813 at Blandford, they had 5 children. Grace died in 1825 and John married again to Hannah Old in Melcome Regis in 1826. It is possible that Hannah's maiden surname was Bartlett. They had 4 children including Sophia who is my 3x great grandmother.
I'd be interested to know how your friend and I are related. I have done a DNA test which is registered on Ancestry and MyHeritage, if they are on there too. Feel free to send me a direct message if you want to talk details.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Help with occupation

Ah so it says Wilmot! And what I thought is "of the" is the "ot" of Wilmot followed by Vice Admiral. Got it now :) That vicar/curate should have been a doctor!

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Help with occupation
« on: Friday 29 July 22 19:01 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone decipher the occupation of the father of the groom here?

The name of said individual is Alexander Schomberg, he is something-of-the-something!

Thanks in advance!

The Lighter Side / Re: May-December marriages (19th century)

I've found it particularly common with clergymen to marry much younger brides for some reason.

My personal ancestor age difference is 50 years, 76-26; the couple had 4 children. He had been married before with 9 children.

Graveyards and Gravestones / Re: Barnahely cemetery - photo request

It might be worth creating a record on FindAGrave for his burial, and then putting in a photo request through that website. Worked for me in the past!
