Australia / Peter McMillan known as John Gordon.
« on: Sunday 19 January 20 01:58 GMT (UK)  »
I have been searching for Peter Melville Mcmillan's death for many years.
He was born in Truro South Australia in 1870. His father was Peter McMillan and mother Johanna Maher.
On Ancestry I have come across a death certificate which shows at time of death he was known as John Gordon. Most details on death certificate were incorrect. Transcribers note on his death certificate all alterations were certified by M G Edwards (his sister) M G Edwards is my Great Grandmother.
Correction Name Peter Melvelle McMillan known as John Gordon. He died at Armidale NSW on 29 December 1928. Death record is still under John Gordon. My query is would a death certificate show more than a transcribers? Also what steps would have to be taken to alter death certificate. Would there be a file at NSW BDM's on this case as to what lead to the death certificate being altered? The alterations were made 30 October 1930. Any help in solving this mystery would be appreciated.

Hi Max I have some of what I was looking for. I cannot find the reference you have written.
She arrived there on 15 Feb 1847.   she On 20 August she and another 169 female prisoners were ordered to be conveyed to the "Cadet" at Woolwich.
This is what I was wanting however I need the reference for an assignment.
Sorry I have not replied before have been busy writing another story for the course.
I am doing Writing Family History through the University of Tasmania. Very Interesting.
Thank you for all your help. I would like the reference if you have time . I have not found these details on her convict papers.  Regards Howie.

Hi Peter, Yes I do have the information from the Ancestry Family Tree. My tree is one of them. The gaps in Harriet's life are where she spent time after sentencing and her life in Tasmania before she travelled to the Goldfields. Such an interesting woman.

Hi I have posted extracts from Ancestry. I did wonder at the difference in Districts, however I am sure this is the same William son of William and Phoebe Pentecost who were my GGG grandparents.
William Snr's occupation was not always listed as groom ,however when he migrated to Australia in 1849, he is listed as occupation groom. Perhaps times were hard and he had to work at various occupations eg labourer and male servant. I have been able to complete my assignment with the information you have given me. Thank you so much. I will leave post open for a few days to track down any further information.

On looking at son William's Baptism record again I perhaps have the wrong location for Gravel Lane.
William was baptised in the Parish of St Saviour, Southwark,in the county of Surrey in 1836.
Abode Gravel Lane, Father's occupation Groom.

Thanks Ruski you are a champion. I would have searched and searched and never found the map with Hardington St. The other streets were Gravel St. (Sorry, I incorrectly wrote Grave St) in 1836 this is recorded on son's baptism and Little Alie St 1838 recorded on daughter's baptism. Residence Marylebone.Thank you to others who have contributed. I now have plenty of information to work on.
Once again thank you.
